New Member Saying Thanks
Hi all! New member of the forum after being a longtime lurker.
I wanted to toss a brief thank you out there to forum member TLee who introduced me to the sport. We met at my club's swap meet and he told me about the ins and outs. After my first smallbore cowboy match I was hooked. I've put away my USPSA rig for the last few months and have been enjoying my club's smallbore cowboy matches and the people I've met there. With some of the threads discussing bringing silhouette to new people, I wanted to put this out there as a reminder that word of mouth is still a great option.
Looking forward to learning and contributing.

I still have two complete USPSA rigs(CZ Custom Shadow and Glock 17) in two bags and a Dillon 650 ready to go for Production. I will never compete again in USPSA or Steel Challenge. You arrive at the range at 6:30 A.M. and help set up all the elaborate courses of fire. The earliest you might leave the range is 2:30 P.M. but you only actually shoot a total of about 3 minutes the whole day. The rest of the time you are pasting, scoring and playing range safety officer. With Silhouette it is the opposite. Just a few minutes for range set up if the range is built correctly and it seems like we are busy shooting all day.
USPSA = 99.9% Working all day in the sun and watching other people shoot.
.1% Shooting and having fun.
Silhouette = .1% Working setting up targets.
99.9% Shooting and having fun.
I am going to keep my USPSA stuff and timer just to shoot courses of fire in the back yard.
Welcome DnL627!

Not that I am interested, but just so you know there isn't any rehab for the addiction.
Welcome aboard. Good job TLee!

@atomicbrh
I don't think I'll give up on USPSA in the long run because I do enjoy it, but I think you hit the nail on the head about the long days and minimal shooting time. I'm finding it harder to find that much time on a weekend and afford to shoot the matches. And I'm shooting production class with steel cased 9mm! I'm finding myself much happier with the silhouette game right now. Its a challenge and I can shoot the match for the cost of a meal at Whataburger and still have the rest of my day. Not a bad deal!
And I don't know what y'all are talking about with this addiction stuff... *rapidly closes browser tabs for a CZ 455 American in 22lr, Leupold FX-III, and a few lever guns on Henry's website*

I'm the bald guy from Houston who comes out to Tims matches with my wife. It is a fun sport, glad you are enjoying yourself.

The first step is admitting you have a problem.
The cure is usually a new gun...

DnL,
Welcome aboard SteelChickens and welcome to Silhouettes!
There's more out there than just SB Cowboy. . . come on in, the water's fine!!!
Hope you get all the help you need with the new additction!
Let us know other thoughts from the "new guy" perspective.
What can we do to get more shooters - more youth shooters - more women shooters (I'm not beat by enough of them yet).
Good Luck and Good Shooting!

Greg, I'll get him to hang around for the PCCLA match soon enough. Last couple matches we've had 105+ degree heat and 50%+ humidity (and still had 24 shooters), so I couldn't blame anyone for not wanting to hang around for the afternoon match. Only gonna get to 100 degrees and 40% with 10mph breeze this coming Sunday, so it'll feel like fall is on its way.ShootingStar wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2017 10:09 am DnL,
