Gateway, Colorado at the 2017 Fall Gateway Dynamite Shoot
Saturday October 7th 2017 11:17 am

Bob McAlice made personal history today by firing his 50,000th 7-08 round since buying his first 7-08 rifle in 1990. Upon firing his 36th shot of the day the 50K rounds fired milestone was achieved. He was assigned explosive target #35 as he stepped up to the firing line with two rounds in his pocket, one marked with a blue inked primer. The laser range finder measured distance to the charge was 192 yards. Shot #49,999 went 1/2” left of the dynamite charge and missed. The blue inked primer milestone cartridge was calmly inserted into his custom rifle’s chamber and the bolt was closed. Within seconds of acquiring the target the trigger was pressed….KABOOM. #:-s The blast noise echoed off the canyon walls several times before dissipating into history. 8)

The massive crowd erupted in cheer as McAlice proudly walked to the ticket window to collect his ten dollar hit award. He would go on to fire 24 more shots that day at $2.50 per trigger pull. As an aside he also was the first shot fired hit for the first blast of the day at this prestigious historical event, something he has done many times in the past. This was also a 190 yard shot. :D

Some info on his “Dynamite Shoot” rifle:

Remington M700 SA blue with D prefix. No modifications.
Stock old style Remington trigger set at 2.0 lbs.
Remington Classic standard walnut stock.
Douglas XX Premium 24” SS #3 sporter weight barrel, 1808 rounds fired to date.
Leupold 6.5 – 20X gloss with fine duplex mounted in Leupold steel bases and rings.
Bianchi Cobra leather sling.

His load recipe for this event:

Winchester 7mm -08 case.
Hornady 120 gr. 7mm V-MAX.
37.5 grs. Hodgdon Varget powder.
CCI #200 primers.

Some facts related to fifty thousand rounds fired of 7-08 ammo:

Fifty thousand 7mm bullets downrange.
50 bricks/ ten cases of CCI #200 primers.
278.5 pounds of propellant burned.
About 2500 brass cases turned to scrap.
Numerous rifle barrels destroyed.

Thanks to Grizz and Dave B. for their company on this trip. We had a "blast".

Looking forward to the 2018 Spring Gateway Dynamite Shoot. :-bd

Bob,
Well written post aobut something not many of us can say (especially with that level of certainty)!
I enjoyed reading about it - but I'm guessing you enjoyed DOING it more!
Lots of shooting, fun and memories wrapped up in the time it took to get there!
Some of us will strive to beat that "record" but only for the enjoyment factor - not the "one-up-manship"

Good shooting and keep up the good work!

Thanks Greg, sorry for the late reply. Been busy. Added 125 shots to that number today. In the upper 70's here and calm. I will report back when the 100 K milestone is achieved. :D
