Fore end depth

Post by Grantmac »

I know it's limited to 2.25" below the bore, but can the trigger guard/bottom metal be inset? Can the shape have a cutout for the trigger guard like on many air-rifle stocks?

Thanks,
Grant

I believe both of those things are fine.

Rule 3.1.f talks about maximum depth and use of the trigger guard but nothing about it being recessed. The Anschutz 54 MS/R has a recessed trigger guard and it was designed for Silhouette.

It seems very beneficial which makes me wonder why nobody is doing it unless it's not permitted?

I'm genuinely curious to know how you see an inset trigger guard as being beneficial.

On my 1710 the trigger is a certain distance below the centerline of the bore, the fore-end can be a certain distance below the centerline of the bore, but I'm not seeing how a recessed trigger guard would benefit a support hand with both of those distances being at a fixed distance below the centerline of the bore.

If the fore-end could be deeper than 2.25", such as with the 54 MS/R or 1907 style series of rifles, then I would see where recessing the trigger guard would make sense.

Help me understand your thinking on this because I'm not seeing it. :-?

On my rifle the trigger guard is flush at around 1.5" of depth. To get to 2.25" I'd need to inset it 0.75" which would require a cut out to reach the trigger.

This is what my rifle would look like with a max depth stock:

Yup, nothing wrong with that design that I can tell.
