Any rule changes ?

Post by rogersptl »

Did the competitors meetings generate any rule changes at Nationals? Any discussion on the fees to be charged for approved matches? How about dates & location for 2020? Thanks to Adam for posting the scores.

There were some suggestions for changes that will be addressed by the silhouette committee in October or November. Their suggested changes will then be reviewed and ruled upon by the Board of Directora for final approval and implementation.

As to the fees charged for matches, the competitions division will address that soon.

I suppose we could all speculate about the National SB Silhouette commitee making Ridgeway the permanent home for,the Nationals?

It would give us something senseless to do for a bit of time.

David, we just got back from the 2019 Smallbore Nationals at Ridgway. That area of Pennsylvania is pretty much an epicenter of silhouette with many, many locals being active competitors. Unlike Raton where competitors and match administrators swoop in for the match and swoop out. The Pennsylvania people work their silhouette programs year round because they are residents there year round. I would say that every citizen in that part of Pennsylvania knows what Silhouette is even if they do not participate in it. It is that popular there.

I guess you are an advocate for making Ridgeway the permanent home for the Nationals?
I have often wondered if the National Championships shouldn't have a single location where they are held. Kind of like how Nationals at Camp Perry have been in the past.

Lebanon, Kansas is the geographic center of the US (48 contiguous states). Wichita, KS is the closest major city for flights in/out, so either Wichita or Kansas City.

How many silhouette ranges are there in either city?

The funny thing for us is Ridgway is 1,091 miles away and Raton is 1,083 miles away.
Not much difference in the drive. Two days of driving for old people with a overnight stop. Our main personal requests for a National match is a maximum day time temperature of less than 80 degrees, low humidity and less than a 2 day drive. Lower match fees would be nice also. Many places in middle America that are cool enough do not have silhouette because you cannot stand up because of the wind much less shoot standing. The southern states are out because it is just too hot to stay out all day.

DavidABQ,please stop with the false news of Ridgway ( spelled with no e),that it is their or NRA intent to have Nationals there on a permanent basis.Ridgway is perfectly content with the alternating format.
This kind of rumor causes only conflict and does this sport no benefit.
What does matter is what’s fair to both east and west. The other aspect is who can and will put on the best bang for the buck.

There are at least 2, one at the Tappan Hill gun club north of Salina, and the Miller gun club.

I'm almost sure that a host club needs to have both SB and HP with at least 10 banks for SB. Don't know how many for HP. There aren't many of these clubs around like Ridgway.

Neither Tappan nor Miller are equipped to handle a national championship, and they are both BPCR ranges primarily. Tappan does have lever action also, but not smallbore.

I quite clearly say that it is speculation. I am not insinuating that NRA is contemplating any such thing but maybe we should suggest it.

There are other NRA national championships that are held at a permanent site. Maybe we should petition the the Silhouette Council to consider the idea.

Thank you for the spelling correction.
