Finally got it (mostly) built

Post by Grantmac »

Had this barreled action for a while waiting on a stock. Finally tracked down a Wooster with exactly the inlet needed.
I may swap to a spare 1712 barrel or taper the existing one, haven't decided yet.

Very Nice. The paint at the front of the stock gave me a doubletake as it looks like a bad break at the front. Is your rifle a single shot or repeater?

It's a single shot but the stock and bottom metal are for an MSR.

A similar setup to my 54.18msr. It has a 1712 barrel and merrier stock. The 5018 trigger was resprung by Neil stepp for a 2lb pull weight. I think your rifle will likely become the favorite of your silhouette herd.

Did you swap the barrel yourself? I'm slightly intimidated by that process.

Waiting on springs from Neil right now. Plus going to make a trigger blade which is longer and set to the rear.

Had a quick session with it yesterday. Definitely seems like it wants to shoot.

Trigger reach was a bit far so I knocked this out in the shop:

No, I bought it from a friend who had the barrel swapped out. It was a complete ready to run rifle when I laid hands on it.

Turns out the barrel swap was not a big deal. Just had to get the action quite hot then place ice on the barrel. Few snacks with an aluminum drift I made up and out it popped.
Installed the 1712 barrel after machining for a slip fit.

Tye really fun part is it was within 2moa after reinstalling the scope. So I'll call that very well aligned.
