Starting a Silhouette Program

Post by 375Short »

If you had an opportunity to start a monthly Silhouette program: Resources available are rails set for SB / Cowboy, 1/2 scale targets heavy and light, 3/8 targets and SB targets.

What program is likely to attract and hold the largest number of people?

I would suspect that lever action would be a good place to start. Equipment is available and the course is less difficult than smallbore silo. We always had lots of shooters who could shoot great off a bench and tried smallbore silhouette and found that it was just too difficult to be fun for them and they quickly moved on.

Just my uneducated opinion...1/2 scale would be best. Using 1/2 scale targets allows a variety of guns to be used...sb lever, pc lever, hunter pistol, 22 sporter / club 4x scope...or let them use any scope not for score to get use to the game and they may eventually want to try regular smallbore.

Location may matter. But if in the US.

SB lever. Brings them in.
SB open sight sporter (look for posts by Tony Tello for description) same targets.

Later:
Pc lever (you may need some 1/2 heavy targets)
But once you have the PC targets this is the same group of shooters.

If you can host SB rifles at the same time. Do it. More shooting not much space needed. 1/5 targets are not that expensive.

One other tip. Recorded line call. Consistant times, no lost voice on Monday.

As always share the match location and times.

Let me know how I can help.
