Eastern Regionals Results
Some national records were bettered, and the first perfect "40" in a registered match for any of the Cowboy Rifles was recorded at the Eastern Regionals held at the McKean County Rifle Club, Bradford, PA 7/3-5.
Day one was the CLAR competition. Al Bean took the gold with a 40 in the morning and a 37 in the afternoon for a first place score of 77. Those scores set new NR's for both the 40 shot club course and the 80 shot Regional course. Bill Zewe took the silver with a 37/31 for a 68, while Gary Holben earned Bronze with a 36/32 68
Jim Zewe, bettered the 40 shot Jr. score with a 33, and then came back in the afternoon to increase it by one with a 34. Jim's total of 67 beat the 80 shot match record which had been held by his brother Joe.
Day 2 saw a couple of Pistol Cartridge NR's tied, and a couple broken. Hal Simpkins took the gold medal with a 75. But, along the way Hal tied the PC Sr. record with a 38 and followed that up in the afternoon with a 37 to tie both the Open 80 shot NR and the Sr. 80 shot record. Bill Zewe took a second silver with a 37/36 73, while Brian Wakefield earned Bronze with a 37/31 68.
Jim Zewe again set Jr. NR's by breaking the 40 shot Club course with a 33 and the Jr. 80 shot course with a 65, which again had been held by his brother Joe.
Day three saw the SBCLAR competition. Hal Simpkins again earned a Gold with a 36/35 71, Al Foust took Silver with a 32/38 70, and Preston Gibson Bronze with a 33/37 70
In the Three Gun Aggregate, Bean took the Gold with a 210, Simpkins the Silver with a 208, and Zewe the Bronze with a 206.
The Ridgway Lever Gunners took the team events firing 205 in Small Bore, 196 in PC, and 195 in CLAR.
