Oops. Busted. Okay, if Mary is agreeable the wager is changed to salad, fruit, veggies and broiled fish all around. Let the games begin!jneihouse wrote:Since BB has been nagging me back to health, I'm going to do the same to him....No steaks for BB, ever again...might not survive the next time the boresnake your arteries....From now on he'll be betting steak against steamed broccoli.....

Remind me to share with you sometime my recipe for a meal replacement shake that will keep you going all day, fights hunger, is nutritionally sound, and will lower cholesterol, fight fat, and preserve lean muscle mass......only drawback is it has the taste and the texture that you would expect it to have to do all those good things for you....

Okay, here goes....But remember to check with your physician if you are in bad health before undertaking any type of diet or exercise change, not responsible for the content contained therein, I'm not a doctor, etc etc...standard disclaimers and stuff.
In a 25 oz shaker (available at Wal Mart or any store that sells body builder stuff) add:
Raw oats (not cooked or processed into "Quick Oats")
2 scoops Whey protein (Health food store, Wal Mart, or Body Builder places) your choice of flavor.
Wheat Germ
Low Fat Yogurt
Low fat soy milk
How much of each? Depends. The more oats the thicker and the longer it'll stay with you. You can substitute granola for the oats for a different taste/texture but watch the sugar levels in the granola if you are sensitive to that sort of thing. I usually layer 2 big handfuls of oats, the two scoops of whey protein, about 2 tablespoons of wheat germ and a generous serving of the yogurt. I then top it off with the soy milk and shake it up until all is mixed well. Then I top it off with the soy milk and shake again to mix all.
A tasty variation on this theme is to take frozen mixed fruit (I like strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries) and puree them in a blender and add this to the mix for a fruit "smoothie".
A word of caution. I am a type 2 Diabetic. I very carefully monitored my blood sugar when I introduced it into my diet a couple of months ago. It did not have a bad impact on my blood sugar levels and in fact they have become extremely normal and level. But everyone's body chemistry is different so please, if you are diabetic, consult your physician before you consider replacing a normal meal with this concoction.
And also note that you will, if you replace a meal with this shake, eat low fat and sensibly the other two meals each day and exercise for 30 minutes a day, lose weight. Follow this faithfully and you will lose weight quickly. But this is not something that is easy to incorporate into your lifestyle and it gets old very quickly. Weight lost quickly comes back quickly. I know this to be true because I have been up and down the weight ladder several times. I have in the past taken good health for granted and ignored common sense and the obvious indicators that my body was giving out due to bad diet habits and serious inconsideration of what my limits are.
So, enjoy the shake. And think of me each time those raw oats roll down your throat.

I would gladly buy Innocent Mary a steak and Kitty his favorite shake if I could shoot another match. I really think the company ought to buy me a ticket to, oh say, the Southern Nationals to make up for my missing match.
Jason, I know how you can gain weight, just carry Mike to the line while you shoot!

If I carry him to the line, can I use him to shield wind off me so I don't get blown around so much? Down at the Conard Cup this year, we only had any real wind one of the four matches. During that match, I looked down the line and only about three of us were actually getting moved much by the wind gusts. I had to stop listening to Mary call the wind's effects on the bullet and just try to time my shot between the gusts on me. It doesn't help if I know what the wind's going to do to the bullet if the dot is a foot away from the animal when the shot breaks.

Thanks for the shake recipe, John. That recipe does indeed look like one of the bodybuilding shakes a trainer gave me for a while. It didn't work all that well for mass gain for (~8 lbs in 6 months) but I had energy like crazy if I threw in any simple sugars to get me started while the oats and stuff kicked in. I'm surprised throwing that fruit in there didn't mess with your sugar level, though. It looks like it would be a good shake to drink about an hour before a match as long as you left out the fruit.

Wind must have been blowing nearly straight in, unless they had the back door open...Isn't the firing line still enclosed on 3 sides??? Interesting debate on the effect of wind on shooters....Does it affect a skinny shooter more because he is light or a "hefty" shooter more because there is more surface area for the wind to push against??
Where's Shorty??...we need his input....

I suspect that the shake is pretty common in the body building group...In order to gain mass you really have to pound the protein and pound the weights, as well as supplement with Creatin or some other growth stuff...Unless you're genetically predisposed to being "massive"....Natural sugars don't have the same effect on me as refined sugars....Just a little bit of that sends me askew, as well as does white bread....I mainly use it because it keeps me from being hungry and my energy levels seem to be up with no negative effect on my blood sugar....But you, being a thin guy, may have too high a metabolic rate for it to have the same effect on you...

Two notes on Kitty's concoction.
On the one hand, sugar is sugar, but on the other hand natural or raw sugars wrapped in a delivery system like fruit do seem to metabolize slower because of the fiber.
And then there's the oatmeal factor. I don't know what that stuff does, and maybe any other whole grain would have the same effect, because it is an honest to goodness health food. Just changing breakfast to oatmeal drove down my bad cholesterol and hemoglobin A1C (I'm also type 2 diabetic) and increased the good cholesterol. Go figure.

Area increases as the square of the radius while volume, and therefore mass, increases as the cube of the radius. Thus big people have proportionally less surface area per pound. this means us big guys are more aerodynamic than skinny people.
Hmm, does that mean that skinny people should be taxed more for being less fuel efficient?

dwl....damn ME answer. I have to deal with them and the double E's too.
To top it off they have finally stuck an engineer title on my name...three years after I started doing the job and the boss hasn't even bothered to tell me, found it on the HR web site myself.
Now as for taxing the skinny ones for being less fuel efficient, lets get into the fact that pound for pound women are usually stronger than men. So the fact that we are for the most part more fuel efficient makes us less stable right.
BTW forget the hail Mary's, just drop and do twenty, and don't tell em where you are going next time....just don't show up for work.
