Does any of you shoot with blinders on?

Post by #57 »

Ive seen pics of some with blinders atached to there hats, and some atached to there glasses. both of these bothered me. Im trying to eliminate the double vision I get after aiming for more than just a short time. I had never noticed this before while hunting or informal target shooting, but I did not stay on the scope as long. I did find that I could atache a thin piece of black foam around the scope tube just behind the rear mount that blocks my left eyes vision. the only down side is it takes a little longer to find my target. are there any rules against it being atached that way? or a better way? I had even thought of trying a pr of flip down sunglasses with the left eye blacked out. any ideas? #57

Light and reflection in my glasses bothers my eyes and focus so I use a 3P visor hat with the side shields ( http://www.centerthegroup.com/hat.htm ).

There were also some from our Orvis dealer that go on the side bars of your glasses, kind of like safety side shields but dark and don't stick out much past the glass lens, I'd give them a try. (Note: I looked online and didn't see them listed on their site anymore I'll keep looking to see if I can find them)

check out http://eyeblindllc.com/. Its a attachment that goes around the eyepiece of the scope and flips out to block your non dominate eye so you can keep both eyes open and only see through the scope, they are legal to use and the blind come in different colors; white, black and a smoke color. I use them on my smallbore and highpower and airguns. The work great and fit virtually any scope and they cost under 15.00 bucks. :D

For Eyeblinds, need scope size and color choice and Coates can ship them out.

I wear glasses all the time. So what I did was bought a pair of clip on sunglasses , removed the right lens and blocked out the left lens with electrical tape. I guess it's a red-neck blinder; but it works real well.

blinders

Here's a couple of examples. The eyeglass blinders block out any movement that could be distracting from the side. The scope mounted device allows you to shoot with both eyes open.
Some scope mounted device just have a shade on one side. I prefer the double sided shades because it also blocks out distractions from anything happening down range.

Jason,
the common scopes where we know the scope size is all I need. I will need to know what color you want.

At times my scores look like I've been shooting with my eyes closed, if that counts....I used the cap like Bob259 is talking about with a eye patch to learn to shoot with both eyes open...

When I was pistol shooting I always used an opaque blinder on my opposite eye. The opaque is supposed to cause less eystrain/fatigue as both eyes are getting similiar amount of light.
