4227 is best for moderate pressure loads that don't fill the cartridge case. Ideal for reduced power jackated or lead in any of the 38/55 case head cartridges. 30/30 for CLA it's idea for light bullets well under 2000 fps. CPT loads with 125 gr varmit bullets for example Anything else it's not the right powder.

Recent ASSRA 200 yard bench rest record was set with 4227 in a 32/40, just a bit larger bullet that 30/30. Same case.

I don't shoot 30-30 but my shooting partner has been doing very well with H-4895 under Speer 170 grainers and CCI primers here in Kansas. He's about a gnats eyebrow away from masters- maybe this weekend at Tappan Hill!

Varget here for me too.
Get yourself a Lyman 311041 mold & a lead pot and never have to worry about bullets again...

Update from today's match: The CFE223 powder worked great in the pig/turkey load, pushing the 130 grain Speer FP bullets well enough to score 30 or higher in each match. The star (shockingly) of the day was actually the carbine bullet with Trail Boss powder, though. It shot great and cleaned house on the chickens, as expected. The surprise was that it shot great on the pigs and turkeys also, and didn't ring a single one out of several of each animal. I think I'm going to try those for CPT at the next match. The load is 11.5 grains of Trail Boss, Federal 210M primers, and 110 grain Remington FMJ carbine bullet. It feels like shooting a 22 magnum. :))

ditto on the trail boss.

I'm using a commercially cast bullet here in Oz (Hawkesbury 165gn plain base) with 8.5gn of trail boss for cpt and 17.5 gn AR2207 (equivalent to 4198) for rams.

Touch wood have had no problems with knock down, although some go slow. Shot a 36/40 last time out and as Jason said they are very comfy to shoot and you get a lot of reloads from a container.

regards,
Nigel.

A pretty bold statement, but I tried a similar bullet with excellent results, so you may be on to something.

May I assume that you are using Varget with this bullet? What velocities are you getting ? Gas check?

Thanks.
