I ran matches for about 15 years in Idaho and the NRA was a pain in the ass every year. They acted like they had an empire to rule without any idea how hard they were making it for the match directors. It was the 'old way', 'my way or the highway'. I don't even remember how many discussions we had over the idea of forming a 'silhouette shooters group' or putting up with them. The way they changed the rule book every year was another sore spot.

The NRA is the only organization, business or whatever that operates off from our funds and want their asses kissed on top of that. They have never gotten that. I think that is the main reason that there are so called 70 plus million gun owners and only 3-4 million NRA members!

Bob,

Jerry and I eliminated our problems forever this year by having a new Match Director that is more politically correct than I have ever been for the Southern Nationals. I have many horror stories regarding the NRA Competitions Silhouette Committee or even the person that is in charge and will not get into it as I do not have a week to write non-stop.

After threats from Zander, Teresa Everheart and C W Slaughter and his wife Mary that they would come to Winnsboro the first weekend of June each year to just party with us, we decided to host a Party - The Southern Nationals NRA Non-shooting Party (we do not have to have their permission, pay fees or send in any reports) and have the same generous sponsors! It is all good and Dustin is even running the 23rd Southern Nationals at the same time. We will be awarding ALL the donations as door prizes to all Party entrants regardless of them shooting rifles or alcoholic beverages. A win/win situation!

FWIW, I have had to deal with 3 different people at the competition department in the last few months sanctioning my matches for next year. All 3 have been completely courtious and helpful. We are all human and we all have our good, and not so good days. Maybe I have just been lucky...

UPDATE

Well, just got home from work and checked the mail. Another delinquent match report form from Mrs.Chin again. This time a THIRD AND FINAL notice for not reporting my SENT IN HP STATE report and also the STATE SMALLBORE report which I have nothing to do with.

Apparently Mrs.Chin is in charge of the NRA silhouette dept. and not Mr.Willing. I put off contacting them instead giving them time to sort out my problem. This coupled with the flood of new members due to current events I did not want to bother them. The THREAT of not approving any future matches until these reports have been sent in is also stated on the FINAL NOTICE form sent to me.

This is it for me. I am DONE being the match director at CRC for NRA APPROVED matches. To repeat...DONE. I will gladly continue to run monthly UNSANCTIONED matches and practice sessions. If the small group of HP shooters here in CO wants to shoot NRA approved matches some one will have to step up and take over. I have not yet sent in my 2013 match schedule waiting instead for some sort of resolution to my problem. I will happily assist any one that is willing to take on being the next HP match director at CRC. If you are not a CRC member I can save you the one time $125.00 initiation fee and the $100.00 yearly work bond for being a match director at CRC.

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but that is just the way it is.

Wow Bob...you've become awfully sensitive. I guess Mrs Chin can run you out of a job and she's all the way in Virginia :D Think about this....if you don't run the matches who will and then what happens to the 'game'. By the way what happens if Mrs Chin doesn't get her flippin' reports? You'll still have matches and Creg may be working himself into irrelevance :ymdevil:

Bob,

As I stated before, the NRA Competition Dept. was so bad about working with match directors that I stopped having the BPCR Target Rifle matches run under the NRA. One of the guys that runs the BPCR Target Rifle matches at the CRC had this to say a few days ago:

"Attached are the flyers for the 2013 Colorado Rifle Club matches. Please pass them around to anyone that might have an interest and not included on this e-mail. Please note that after one season, I have decided not to have the monthly matches NRA approved. That was pretty well iced after they "lost" my Regional paperwork. Somehow the check got cashed, though. We will continue to hold a Regional and this year have moved it to August since the Nationals are moved to September."
Cheers,

Pefect, Mr. Briscoe just perfect. But....I AM NOT MAD AS HELL, just annoyed by the incompetence shown by the the NRA tournament reporting/silhouette dept. Reading Dans post about it happening to a fellow CRC match director, especially saying they had also cashed his check shows this is a wide spread internal problem.

Some one here must have tipped off Mr.Willing of my recent post. I had a message on my answering machine today asking me to call him ASAP. I will call him from work tomorrow to see what he has to say. I will not be sending in any more reports or funds I am told are delinquent. I have a copy of my cleared check cashed by the NRA. I had a pleasant conversation last month with Mr.Willing and expect no less tomorrow. I will report back what transpired between us.

To those CRC HP shooters wondering about the future of the game here, rest assured. I will continue to run matches and practice sessions forever if need be WITH or WITHOUT the NRA.

Easy Trigger...Whoa! The NRA is our last hope to keep our game and our firearms. Greg may not be great at his job and complaints usually solve 'employee' problems. Practically speaking unsanctioned matches are ..well, unsanctioned and thus a practice match and always abandoned over time. You guys are annoyed over things that have no real consequence ...your matches still get sanctioned and advertised in Shooting Sports and you get mail from Mrs Chinn that keeps you blood circulating :D

The NRA is our best hope to keep our firearms. They damn sure arn't our best hope of running rifle matches. They need to get their (crap) together so than pick it up and straighten it out when it comes to blessing our matches and writing ever changing rules.

They seem to forget that just about all of the competitive shooters are at least life members in that orgasm.

Jerry how do I become a lifetime orgasm member and what is the fraternal hand shake?

It's too bad there isn't an appreciation of this sport. Maybe if we were using fancy shot guns the NRA would show a little more love.
