I think it can do even better than this. My front rest is setup for a 3" wide flat BR type stock, so the Ruger wasn't as stable and repeatable as I think it could have been.

I went to the range with mine today and am unable to duplicate your findings. Best group I was able to get would be a bit over 1 inch at chickens. PIgs opened up to over 2.

Federal 510 high velocity was about 4 inches at chickens.
cci stand was 1 - 2 at chickens
SK was the best at around an inch

Did you do anything to you gun to make it shoot? Tighten the stock screws, lose stock screws, clean the barrel well?

What kind of rests did you use? Windy day! Cheap scope with non repeatability? How steady were you when testing. Just some other questions.

No cheap for me..... I used a Sinclair front rest and a t-24 scope. Felt pretty stable. Off the same rest, same time a CZ452 shot about 1/2 inch group same ammo.

I literally only ran a couple wet patches through the barrel and a couple dry patches just to get any crud out. I pulled the action out of the stock and adjusted the trigger to it's lightest setting. Put it back in the stock and snugged up the action screws to about 25 in/lbs.

I didn't try any Fed 510 so I can't comment on that. I have a boat load of it so I may give some a try and report back.

Are you 100% confident in your scope/rings/mounts? The convenient thing about this rifle is that you can shoot with the iron sights to cross check.

I am going to clean the barrel well this week, reduce the tightness of the stock screws, play with the trigger again, and try again this weekend. Let everyone know the results.

Spoke with Ruger today and they say about 3 minutes maybe a bit better is their expectation. They suggested CCI mini mags.

Good luck getting your hands on CCI Mini-Mags. Has anyone actually seen CCI Mini-Mags for sale recently? Of course, I mean from anyone other than those trying to get $30+ for a 100-round box. My smallbore cowboy rifle shoots those better than anything else that I've tried and I'm pretty well out of them now. I have been looking around at local gun stores for one of these Ruger American rifles after seeing this review from Trent, so I guess I should wait until I can find the Mini-Mags before I buy the rifle.

I recently got 1600 rounds from Bass Pro for $90.00 plus tax. Also got 300 more rounds of hollow-points at walmart for $7.37 per 100. They are starting to show up .

Good to know, John. That 1600-round box is exactly what I've been looking for, but I'd also buy 100-round boxes if I could get my hands on them, too.

Two days later and I am still irked at myself for only hitting 4 chickens. Should have been at least a 30/40 if not a 32. Four more chickens would have gotten me my second leg into Master... with a $260 gun! Grrrr

It's called "new gun phenomenon " shoot it a couple of times and you'll solidly back in AA!!!
It's about time one of the American gun companies stepped up to the plate again with a decent affordable 22.

Ha ha ha! Rugers expectation is a 3 moa rifle? That means they don't want to deal with warranty service because it won't shoot crappy ammo into minute of tin can. I expect some people will get a shooter while others won't. Ruger made this rifle to fit a sales price and it's welcomed. Too bad there's not a $600 version that shoots minute of a gnat's @$$!

Just remember it's a Ruger. I bought one Ruger rifle and by the time I got it to shoot the way I wanted it to I could have bought two Remingtons. Just finished another year of sight-in service for the club, this was about the 20th year for me or close to it, and every year when there is a rifle that just won't shoot worth a darn guess what kind it is. There are some that are tack drivers and the folks are glad to own them, but to me they are the exception rather than the rule. Ever hear of a happy Red Label shotgun owner? So if faced with buying a gun that shoots 3 minutes maybe at 25 yards or sending your cash to me, well PM for an address to send it to. If you happen to make the wrong choice and the gun won't shoot just remember it's a Ruger!
