Extended magazine release for 1712
Hey All, quick question for you Anschutz experts out there. I have a 1712 barreled action in a Wayne Merrier stock and would like to get a longer magazine release on it. I've done a little searching on the web and haven't found anything yet. I have heard that the releases on the biathlon rifles may work.
Does anyone know of anyone who makes an extended releases that will fit this rifle?

Your on the right track, the biathlon one will work. Try Neal Stepp a I.s.s. Shooters supply in Fort Worth.dmakley wrote:Hey All, quick question for you Anschutz experts out there. I always bought them from Neal, for about $10.00 each, Two months ago I bought the last two he had $45.00 each. According to him Anschutz no longer makes them since they quit making the 54.18.
I would try Steve Boelster, he is the new Anschutz rep. in the USA.

Here is a picture of mine. It is just a little screw that was put into the old release.

The biathlon release is very very long. I have one and when I put it in it stuck out a full inch. I am going to cut it down so it just sticks out. Might be easier to just make one if you have the tools or know someone who does.
I buy all my guns from t-rex. He's a small arms dealer.

Tools required:
electric drill
Small tap
Material required:
small screw to put into tapped hole
small dab of 'lock-tite' on screw thread
This isn't a brain operation.

Yeah, but to have a great looking carbon fiber rifle with a screw sticking out of it instead of a proper release?
I have one too, I just don't like it. Hopefully by the next time I see you I'll have a real release.
Now if only I could teach that release to shoot......

I am with you OldRanger, for a rifle as elegant as an Anschutz a screw sticking out of the magazine release is pretty ghetto looking.
I am sure it is functional but there has to be a better way to create an extended magazine release.

In Jerry's defense he did use a Shiney stainless one. ;)DavidABQ wrote:I am with you OldRanger, for a rifle as elegant as an Anschutz a screw sticking out of the magazine release is pretty ghetto looking.

If you can't find one let me know I think I have one from one of my builds.

Re: Extended magazine release for 1712
Thanks for the responses! I was hoping someone made one that was easy to get.
Jerry, thanks for posting the picture. I may just do that to mine, yes the screw is a little ghetto, but as far as screws go that looks like a classy one, allen head even! got to do something, my finger was actually pretty sore after the last match from reaching up in to the magazine well, my fingers were slippery from that waxy SK ammo, that didn't help any.

The cap screw is recessed about 1/16 inch from the bottom of the stock. It is a real nice looking cap screw.

Here is my new extended magazine release. I went to the hardware store and got a bit and tap and after checking out all of the different screw choices I went with one that has a knurled head on it. Works Great!
