So is .22 BPCR Hunter some alternate game to regular .22 BPCR? First time I've ever heard of it.

Are there any other differences other than shooting pigs offhand?

First time ever shot in the 22 BPCR game is why most folks haven't done it before. We shot a variation of it for several years at Raton with the big bore BPCR but then it went away.

We, the management of the Rocky Mountain .22 BPCR Regionals Championships, thought it would be fun to bring it back as an extra day to shoot at Regionals. Folks travel a long way to shoot and the extra day helps make the time and dollars spent to come to the match better. We also lowered the entry fee for this match to $25 and will provide lunch and an evening social, food and beverages, after the match as part of the entry fee. Cal Graf and Wyoming Sight Drifter provide the social at the Cal Graf building. The Rocky Mountain Regional 22 BPCR Championships award belt buckles to our winners. The Hunter Champions will receive the same buckles as given to the Regional Champions. Should be fun.

Format is slightly different:
1. Only 6 minutes and 30 seconds to shoot all ten targets vs the usual 10 minutes.
2. Pigs are shot off hand vs lay down.
3. No spotter.
4. Targets may be shot in any order, don't have to run left to right or even in order.

Otherwise the targets are at the same distances and the same equipment, rifles, cross sticks, etc., are used. Shooter may use a spotting scope or binoculars to aid themselves spotting their misses. Junior shooters will have an adult on the firing line with them to help but may not act as a spotter.

Normally not having a spotter would make this more difficult for iron sight shooters when shooting into a dirt berm. Hard to see the hits to get on the targets but at the Smithmoor Range they have the targets set on rails with a large back board of steel painted white so the shots are easily seen, the closer ones without an ocular aid but the farther targets may still need the ocular help.

We shot a practice at Smithmoor several weeks ago but only shot the turkeys. The winner was an iron sight shooter who got all ten in 2 minutes and 21 seconds. Second place with 2 minutes and 30 seconds was a 12 year old junior shooter. In this case, just for this one target, we used time to determine the winner since more than one shooter got all ten targets in six minutes and 30 seconds allowed.

Hope this answers your questions about this game.

Thanks for the clarification - looks like it will be a fun match.
We are having our local .22 BPCR match this Sunday, and I think I'll try to shoot it using your Hunter rules for the extra challenge.
