More expensive to feed, but worth it.

How To Make "Almost" Free Targets

Post by Another Dang 9 »

This is for everyone who wants to make practice targets.
Step.1 Bring a large piece of cardboard to the next match and trace out a target on the cardboard or ply wood which ever you have on hand. Do this for each animal.
Step.2 Turn that into a template out of plywood or masonite or whatever you may have. I had a bunch of masonite. Cut it out using a jig saw.
#Handy mans motto: if its free, its for me.
Step.3 This is the only thing you should have to buy. Craft paper. Place your template on the craft paper and cut out the target.
Step.4 Staple to something and Shoot.

Hi Randy, that's a great way to do it as well but...you have to buy two things. Paper and paint. Paper is much cheaper than paint and works in the rain too.

I just bought some AR 500 at $1.85 per pound. Paper targets are looking better all the time.

I don't know what I'm paying per pound but that sounds cheap. 1/2" AR costs about $100 per sq. foot.

That is "not cut" AR 500. A sq foor of 1/2 inch steel weighs about 21 pounds. Getting it plasma cut is NOT cheep.

Plasma cutting is actually very cheap as it only takes seconds to do. The shop I deal with charges only for his time to load, unload and deburr. Which I end up doing to save some money.

You found a cheep one. Hang on to it. The shops hedre charge an arm and a leg to cut into a full piece. Theu will cut their drops but you have to buy the entire drop, not just the animal.

Why ar500?
Just pondering. Ar400 or less would be cheaper. Not buiilding armoured cars.
I know 500 is all the rage with tacticool guys.

Well if a practice target where to be left out on the range maybe Ar500. Make it Yahoo proof.
Just wondering. As it may be on my project list.

According to my supplier, AR-400, AR-500, and T-1 are within a few pennies of each other.
