The problem with your assumptions is that most people already shoot only one gun (especially when traveling) so the number of competitors aren't "cut in half", therefore you won't double the number of competitors by going to one gun.

Your assumption is wrong. There aren't two sets of people going to matches, one standard and one hunter. It is 95% of them shooting the two guns, so you aren't doubling anything.

And if you look at it, standard always has a few more shooters than hunter, so there are a few people that only shoot standard and then leave or enjoy the day. Rules stability is the main thing need, which we kinda have now

I started smallbore MS in the early 2000's , had only one rifle, Anschutz 54 MS, didn't own a hunter legal rifle for
about 5 years, shot state and national matches at ridgeway along side Eric Amick, now deceased, who never owned a hunter
style rifle. if I remember correctly, there were always more standard rifles than hunter

Further - I submitted MANY possible advantages to altering the present state of Silhouette …
You realize that - although you chose to comment on merely one .
My main point was :
What would happen IF -
We change smallbore Hunting rifle to 9 lbs ???
We allow vertical pistol grip - ie 54MS style stock from Anschutz design ???
I pose those two questions to You …

At the very end I made 2 proposals -
Petition for a change in Smallbore Hunter rule
8.5 lbs . Change to 9 lbs …
Petition to allow in the designated and stated rules :
Allow Anschutz 54 MS style stock for Smallbore Hunter .
Again - I ask those 2 questions of everyone .
Please respond to those 2 petition questions …

Light and heavy, let's stop this hunter foolishness. Lots of folks are hunting with rifles that wouldn't be legal for hunter.

I agree with GSL. What would it hurt? 8ozs! As far as grip goes, we're already there with the Old Nesika, Pharr, Wooster, Merrier. I don't see the difference. Just my opinion.

We are also already there with the HS Precision silhouette stock as a hunter stock. This stock has been approved by the NRA for a HPHR stock and used in a couple of Nationals. The competitors using this are absolutely people of great integrity and would not skirt the rules. They went through the proper procedure and have a letter from the NRA stating that it is legal for Hunter use so there is no debating the legality. If you look at this stock it is nearly identical in shape to A 54 MS stock except for the pistol grip is longer.
