I guess that I should chine in here and now! I suggest that the smelly orange tee shirts be discussed in "Behind the Berm".
I will tell everyone that coveting one of these shirts will definitely put you LAST in the line for one. Just ask Limey. The Orange shirts are strictly a discretionary award decided by Jerry and myself for random BS ( or ignorance some will say). Only Out-of-state competitors can qualify and we do not recommend wearing them in Franklin Parish or maybe even the entire state of Louisiana!
For some strange reason, these shirts are the most prized awards that we present! The second most coveted award is the Golden Cow Patty award that Pat Steiger is bringing back in a supposed improved state of poo poo!
I will wait until a shirt post is in BTB before commenting further!
Everything is shaping up to be our best match yet! Please send any suggestions to me as we are totally open to improvement ideas!

It is an 80 shot agg in each rifle. Standard rifle will be shot on Saturday with two 40-shot matches of 6 relays. We will then take a lunch read (included with your fees) and then shoot hte final match that afternoon. All Standard Rifle awards will be given on Saturday.
I guess that you could practice on Friday as we have some crazy people coming in the Sunday before to just help with set up, eat our crawfish and generally BS. the air rifle match will be going on Thursday and Friday at that range. You can practice from 7 AM until the Coonass Team Shoot on Friday.

And what about sight in before the match saturday? I don't know if i'll be there early enough on friday if there is going to be another going on. I'm just wondering because the only range close by to sight in at has a downhill slope and thats going to effect my zero and range settings.

You will have plenty of time on Friday as the Team shoot will not start until approximately 5:30 PM. We have sight in and practice for the match each day from 7 AM until 8:30 AM The matches will begin promptly at 9 AM each morning. We have 4 banks of 10 animals. We also have paper at each animal and a swinger between each bank. You can go to
www.winnsborogunclub.com and view the setup of our range.
i am sure that someone on this forum will tell you an unbiased opinion of our range as it is much better for someone not associated with our club to tell you about our setup. We specialize in smallbore rifle silhouette!

Ducky, and unbiased opinion of the Winny range huh? Now how you get that from anyone that has shot there?
On the side bet subject....El Puma, if you are making me buy the beer at Houston then we better get a good side bet going on that match, with at least one dinner involved and I expect to have it paid for too!
I think you sould give me at least 8 point for the aggregrate....after all I have to carry my own rifle!!!

I have competed at the Southern Nationals for about 6 years but got my orange Winnsboro shirt in 2008. The thought that I would be awarded the coveted shirt never really entered my mind and I was really surprised when they called out my name because I just let my evil side out that year having a good time. I cannot tell exactly the things that I did to "earn" it but the tactics I used did not involve verbal comedy, alcohol or cigars but only physical "county fair" comedy.
And to clarify further I had no part in the moving of the Steiger Family canopy. PSteiger is one person I do not pull pranks on because the payback would be too severe.
Duckgumbo, my question is: "Has anyone been wicked enough in the history of the Southern Nationals to win more than one of the treasured shirts?"
Aside for those of you who have not attended this Match before. This Match is good clean fun in a very nice town. Winnsboro is big enough to support a major Match but not so big that traffic or anything else is a problem. Do not let any of the shanangins on this forum keep your family from attending. You will have a blast. You will experience the fastest target setters in the world and a top notch statisitics office.
See you at Winnsboro. We will basically be there all week starting with the first warmup Match the Sunday before.

Atomic,
There has only been one repeat winner and that is because Jerry and I forgot about that! However, they were most deserving!
You are correct in that the teasing and verbal jousting is strictly in the spirit of our match.
We have a new logo - The greatest show on Dirt! (from Kitty Neihouse) and "We will treat you so many ways, that you have to like one of them!"
