I have a mild case of "Biathlon Rifle Fever" - just because they are so cool. I seem to remember someone here building a rifle based on an Anschutz Fortner action - how did that project work out?
I have also seen a guy shooting at the Green Valley, MO silhouette matches with one of the Russian Biathlon Basic rifles. That thing was pretty slick, also. I think that if I found someone with a Biathlon Basic rifle locally, I just might have to pick one up. The triggers are supposed to be pretty good right out of the box. I can't tell from the photos of those Basic rifles if the barrels are tapered, however. They look like they might be straight, bull barrels.

Steve, the Russian Biathalon has too deep of a stock for regulation rifle, but is a great and remarkably accurate rifle to shoot, the model I have does have a tapered barrel. THere are several Fortner actions out there, Pat Steiger has one (or more), as does El Puma (the one I shot in the AZ smallbore states last Oct)...nice rifles. As they said to Mikey, "Try it, you'll like it."

Steve, My friend and I each had Anschutz 1827's made in to Std Silhouette rifles, his was a lefty and mine was the correct way ;).
We had Neal Johnson put the barreled actions into McMillen thumbhole stocks with the standard 5 shot short magazine well and magazine from the 54.18 Slhouette rifle. They were sweet. Since then we both sold them though. I decided to go to one rifle and had a Frankenhunter built by Evelio.
Miss that Fortner action though.
Her is a picture of it...

Great looking rifle Bob. I think I remember seeing one of the Fortner actions in a Pharr style stock as well. Seeing photos only makes me want one more.
The model I'd like to find is the Biathlon Basic. It's a fairly plain-jane rifle with a sporter style stock. Here's a link.

Getting caught up on the Olympics biathlon. Watching the women 12.5k mass start. Seeing 30 women in spandex, in the snow, with rifles is somehow exhilarating and terrifying at the same time!

When I saw all those women with rifles at the starting line my first thought was "Did I put the seat down?"
