teetertotter,
Yeah, I tried several mid-priced brands in my 452 Silht, $60 a case (500) being max, and I had the best groups and consistency with Wolf Match. Some people complain about fliers with WM, but I have been through 3k rounds and only had 1 flier that I know was the ammo. I will happily take those odds fo the price.

Wolf Match T will be my first go at it. Thanks for your input. How does one suggest going about cleaning the CZ between ammo trials? Wet patch followed with few dry patches? Opinions please.

teetertotter,
2 ways I that work for cleaning between ammo types during trials
1) Traditional with a rod, just one lightly damp patch, and then a few dry ones.
2) The fast and easy way, I use a Bore-Snake with a couple drops of solvent ahead of the brushes.
**Note with 22lr use the Viper model, the standard .22cal bore snake pull string hangs up in rimfires.

I appreciate the input. My new Left Handed 452 American arrived yesterday and picked it up this morning. It received a good barrel cleaning and I use synthetic transmission fluid for all mechanizisms. Tomorrow morning it goes to the gunsmith for trigger rework. The bolt slides and locks w/o a hitch and I like the safety. The new scope rings should arrive Friday or Saturday from AZ. Hopefully, I will have first chance with it indoors this Monday evening. The walnut stock is nice. Nice to have something really comfortable to hold with super nice weight distribution which I like. For your info, I paid $445.00 + tax from a local independent gun dealer. Ordered it Monday morning and arrived Wednesday morning.

When you clean during ammo tests you are trying to clean the lube out, not the lead. You do need to keep the leading under control but it shouldn't be a problem with the low number of rounds thru your rifle during the comparisons. Make sure you dirty the barrel before you go back on a record target. It would be a good idea to keep track of velocities while you are shooting the groups. Not all lubs are created equal.

IMO it seems that when you change ammo even if you clean really good versus just maybe pulling a patch worm versus just shooting the new ammo right after the old it all equates to the same thing in the end. It will take several shots under any of the above conditions to settle in with the new ammo before it gets consistent. In my experience so long as the bore was not made filthy and was recently cleaned it makes no difference and I just shoot the new stuff without doing anything. If it does not shoot well after seasoning then I would clean my barrel and re-test.

Newbie here. Since you are talking CZ I thought I will ask. CZ 452 Varmint - would it qualify for smallbore hunting silhouette rifle? Weight wise it should be blow 8 1/2 pounds with a scope. I wanted to get in to this sport and was looking what rifle would be good to start with. I wanted it to be closer to wight of my other .223 I shoot with.
Thanks!

I use a CZ 452 Varmint with a Leupold FX-3. The spec weight for the scope is 11.3 oz. and it is still a few ozs. under 8.5 lbs. The gun has taken me to AAA hunter class so far and works great. It's a fun game! Good luck.
