And the only reason the 7mm Guru hasn't chimed in is because he is busy sighting in for this weekends shoot.....and picking up the JB!!!

The 7mm Guru will be happy that I'll start off with 7mm-08. I might be so impressed that it'll stay that way through the new barrel. There has to be a reason that everyone seems to like the 6.5mm guns though...

Something about that long term recoil feeling after 80+ plus shots in a day.

If you look at old Remington 722's chambered for .222 they have a spacer in the rear of the mag well to take up slack with such a short cartridge. No reason you could not do the same thing with a long action 700 using a short cartridge. How it feeds is controlable depending on how it's set up.

Dustin from what I have read the 6.5x47 has a better BC than the 7-08 and the recoil is a touch less. Since you can use the small primers you can load them to a higher pressure as well from what I understand though I am new to all this HP and reloading myself. I plan on going with the 6.5x47 for my build as well. We will have to ask the more ummm well seasoned shooters at the match tomorrow what the details are exactly.

Edit: If you are riding with Jerry tomorrow he will be able to give you all sorts of good loads for the 7-08. Finley built his in 7-08 for hunting as well and he said the loads Jerry gave him worked great.

Dee,

Jerry told me about some 7-08 loads that he is very excited about - but after about 5 minutes he was way over my head. I'll clarify everything in the morning.

I left a message on your phone. Bring your gun tomorrow!!

G'day All,
I shoot a 7-08 that is built on an old L61R Sako action with no magazine just a blank in the bottom of the action and just throw the rounds in and close the bolt. Never had a problem with the cartridge not feeding into the chamber, but then again it is a Sako!
