Hi all,

I brought the PCP to show some of the guys in the club that had not seen a modern air rifle. I purchased that rifle from Dee on this forum. I'm very happy with it.

The range is probably not in ear shot of Hanauma Bay. But, I could be wrong on that.

Everyone was shooting .22 that day. The small ones were for the guys on the ground...and the larger ones were for the guys shooting standing.

So you shoot the pistol targets standing and the rifle targets prone, that would certainly help your scores in the wind. Never been to the islands, always heard the wind rarely stops blowing there, after watching Kathy Winstead shoot a 38/40 at Raton one year at nationals during a howling wind you have to know it can be done.

Kevin, Hawaii isn't another country. There are no restrictions on flying there with legal firearms. Hawaii does have really strict gun laws and you have to be careful about how you travel around Hawaii with a firearm. But actually bringing a firearm and ammunition to Hawaii is the same as any other state (as long as that firearm is legal in that state).

They act like it's another country, pretty sure you have 24 hours to check in with the local law inforcement once you land and then arrangements must be made for secure storage, ammunition and guns have to locked up separately everywhere including during transport except that they have to be inaccessable when your in a vehicle. There is a limitation that is vague on how much ammunition you can bring without being subjected to harrassment for trying to import or resale laws. The list of unacceptable guns is lenghtly which would not effect us unless you shoot a 10-22.

Howdy,

I only shoot in the monthly "fun" (.22) matches that are open to the public. At those we shoot the larger targets standing with a rifle and the smaller ones (I think 1/5th scale) are shot with pistols in the Creedmore position. Next month I'd like to try the smaller ones with my rifle.

You have 90 days if you are from out of state there for hunting/competition. Only residents need register their firearms within 72 hours.

If Koko Head Shooting Complex were to host a regional match, I'd be there - gun laws or not. It would make a great family vacation.

As for the wind, I'll tie down my straw hat and use my leis to indicate wind speed and direction. ;)

Ha, that's funny. Don't forget that Wal-Mart sells some really bright Aloha shirts.

I always get a kick out of seeing visitors in their matching (ultra bright / loud) Aloha wear.

Super Dave, you live there, ever have anyone visit from the mainland with a gun? If so what was it like for them?

None of my friends or family have come out with guns.

When I used to do the action shooting I recall two visitors from Canada shooting in a match and I wondered how they navigated the gun rules since they were from a different country.

There has to be a reasonable allowance for hunters and target shooting...like one of the previous posts suggested. I would check with the hotel though and make sure the guns would be cool with them.
