Mary and Blaubear,
I stand corrected, therefore your point Blaubear is very relevent. Mary you are correct maybe this should be addressed to the chairman not the underbosses. I would prefer going to the chairman with the full support of the silhouette community and thier wishes.

I had trouble with the range commands. About half of them I have never heard before and I have been shooting many years.
The target setters were called out waaaaaaa after the line was clear and they were slow. I think there needed to be 2 more line officers.
Besides that, I had a good time. except when I shot during the hail storm. Raton is a very nice range.

I know some are very concerned about "airing the laundry", but for me, this thread has been VERY informational.
I am a "small time" SB Silhouette shooter, and only because the shooters I coach need someone to beat.
Being from central NM (south of ABQ) we fire at Whittington several times per year. Our biggest event is our set of state 4-H contests.
Even in late-Apr and early-May those animals have a tough time staying on the rails .... some of the suggestions I have heard I am going to recommend to our 4-H committees. We shot the swingers too .... a simple solution, but agree that it may not be the best .... a hit to the hanger is awfully difficult to differentiate from a body hit.
I like the "taping" and repainting idea .... if there are a variety of suggestions, why not some start a post of something like "Keeping them on the rails"
=====
On a different subject in this thread.
The Whittington Center is mostly a gathering point of so many different disciplines .... not a "club" as most of us would think of it with a large number of members that shoot regularly. I think, while the membership of the "club" is large, most only shoot there once or twice a year when they come to events like the nationals or other events. The group of shooters that consistently uses the facility is most probably small and located in the Raton area. I know if I lived within 30 minutes (as opposed to 3-1/2 hours), my yard would never be cut, but even for me, it's $100 in fuel to get up there and back.
There is not a really large population in the area, and those that do volunteer are probably asked to volunteer for all the events that run thru the entire year. Whittington is a busy place in the spring and summer.
=======
Anyway, just wanted to post that I think this thread is helpful and informative.
Even when we're getting rained on and snowed on in the spring, there's no better "vacation" for me than NRAWC. Sitting on the porch of one of the founders cabins in the morning w/ my coffee or in the evening watching the deer graze .... just right.....

I would switch that to tea but otherwise amen...
Thanks for making the comments about Whittington a little clearer, I know several people from Florida that go to Whittington in the summer and stay for several months, doing nothing but volunteering for the various events hosted there. Maybe I too can retire someday.
