I am sorry to hear how you feel. Personally I never could figure out why these silhouette matches are not just packed with shooters. I guess others just want to do different stuff. The only matches we are involved in where attendance is up is our airgun field target matches at falls. Every other match we go to is down in attendance. I know all this stuff is a lot of work but the reality is that if there are no matches then there will surely be less attendance and conversely if there are more match opportunities there will be more shooters.
I used to get really upset if we didn't get a good turnout. I suppose I figured that I did all this work and nobody cared to show up. My mind set has changed over time however. I realized that I run matches because I/we want to and if people come that's great, if they don't come out then there is little I can do. I/we try to run good quality matches and keep running them and that's about all we can do. I hope we never get to a point at which we do not want to run matches.
Good luck.

Well had a great time at camp sumpter and even got turned on to a small local store that had supplies I was needing...so it pays to attend matches and support these clubs with your participation when you can. Schedual permiting I plan on visiting all the clubs I can within my range for Smallbore and High power....hum might even dust off the contender for some pistol action..

Dustin and I have been talking about this vein for a while. We were talking about doing a 3 day match, first day, 3 x 60 air rifle, 2nd day 2 x 60 SB (or 40), and 3rd day 3 x 40 CLA (sb, pc and HP). We have a club down in Houston (actually Friendswood) that we could probably host it at. There are plenty of hotels, good restaurants and it is 25 miles south of Hobby Airport. There is a Mall within 10 miles and a Bass Pro. Anyone who shot the Texas State SB match 2 years ago did it at that range. Being the mid- southern end of Texas, we could probably run it any month, some being better than others. What is the interest? Is it too much? Too many rifles to haul? ( lets see 4 kids x 8 rifles each plus mine...) Too far to go? I miss the Southern Trifecta, and I think it was a fantastic idea. Benton and St Louis sound great. I'm askin so lemme have it. It's big undertaking.

thanks

Catch this! I had our board convinced to hold the Smallbore Silhouette nationals.....the NRA wanted HP and SB at the same venue.....so we were rejected! I assure you I would have had an outstanding SB National...we are literally in the the middle of the country...no regional biases. By the way in 2015 we host the World Bench Rest and National Championships....30 countries will be here...over 300 shooters....so if you're around come see the dozens and dozens of vendors and all the freebies that 'dying' sport gets. Furthermore we have hosted the 600 yard bench rest Nationals....we had to cut off entries!!!!! Rifle actions, barrels, bullets, stocks, etc were donated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm lucky to get Sierra and Lapua for my regional and thankfully shooters like Dustin, JB, Guru, Boner etc ^:)^ \m/

My feelings are the same as yours.

Two other clubs an hours drive apart stopped having NRA matches/tournament about 5+ years ago, as no one wanted to take it over from the previous person. Pretty sad.

I went to the Daniel Boone Club near Milwaukee 2 years ago to participant in their Monday eve Silhouette league. Their Club Silhouette Director and also our State Silhouette Director suddenly up and left 4 years ago w/o telling anyone at the State Level. We learned in June of that year he left, and I stepped in to carry on with our State Championship, which was normally held at our club. I couldn't let this die. That is how I am.

Our clubs Silhouette Director moved away 4 years ago and I volunteered to take over to continue having NRA approved and tournaments with inviting those to shoot for fun with us.

I am a little discouraged right now as the past 2 Thursday evenings, our season opening, only 5 shooters have shown up, when we normally would have 8. Every year I e-mail everyone with the years schedule and is posted on our website too. I do know one thing, there is NO .22 ammo in our area......period. Several shooters can only a ford a brick at a time. Then with some outrageous ammo pricing, who can afford or want to pay the price.

I will continue to hang in there to keep the NRA Tournaments alive in our region and promote the best I can.

Mizzou would be a perfect place for nationals! Can't really expect the NRA to understand that though... Try again!

BTW Snake, when is your SB state championship and who runs it?

Dustin.....Doug Mallory up in Paris MO runs a SB regional. We don't hold a state match because the Missouri Sport Shooting Association ( our State organization) says that only MO residents can be State Champion....and everybody that signs up for their sanctioned State match must be a member of MSSA......I joined as a life member years ago....I got a paper membership card that I lost....well they don't have any record of me L-) ... but I can rejoin  ....That regional is in September and is usually well attended.....Doug is listed in Shooting Sports

State Shooting Asses I mean Associations are kicking the game in the nuts. What a great way to bring people to the area to shoot a match, force them to buy membership into a State Organization they don't even live in and then deny them the right to actually win the F`ing match. Oh and then as is the case here do about jack shit for anyone running the match or any other matches IN THAT STATE! Genius! I mean pure ass GENIUS! These people should run for public office we need more dipshits running things and they sound like well qualified candidates. At least here we let anyone win it. You win, you win. We don't care where you are from, even Texas!

I like the 3 day match idea Pat. But I don't shoot that John Wayne class stuff. If it was HP I would be all over it. That would be a lot of rifles to bring especially if you ride with guys that insist on shooting two rifles for SB and HP. At least the Cowboy guns are skinny and don't take up as much room. I might still go anyway and give the Shit Kicker Class a go.

Dee,
Those skinny guns are fun. Give it a try. I stake my claim on the bunk in E's or even the floor in Garretts room.
