While I think it's fair to wait until we see what Dennis Willing has to say, I believe that there are a few points to be made and questions to pose regardless. Currently match directors and/or clubs do not pay any fee(s) to the NRA for their approved matches. The proposed change appears to add a $4.50 per shooter, per match charge, to be paid to the NRA for approved matches and a $9.50 charge per shooter, per match, for registered matches. I do not know if the $9.50 is in addition to the funds already paid to the NRA for each shooter for a registered match or if this is the proposed total. Additionaly, as others have asked, will there be a classification card for each seperate rifle/handgun event in each silhouette discipline, ie., standard rifle high power silhouette, hunter rifle high power silhouette, sandard rifle smallbore silhouette, hunter rifle smallbore silhouette, etc. Then there is the question of how responsive is the NRA going to be in getting cards to the competitor, and what time frame can we expect when a competitor's classification changes. If one is shooting as an "expert" when he/she receives their card and now is shooting "master" or "high master" scores, are they required to enter competition at the classification on their card or at the classification where they are currently shooting. Just my .02, which is probably about all it's worth. I'll keep shooting silhouette as long as I'm physically able, regardless of the outcome of these or any other changes. Dan

Shooters, When I have Dennis Willings ear next Monday I will certainly convey to him the concerns expressed on this post. I myself am concerned about the funding for this change. Al Foust

Dan,
I think you have the right attitude. I'm in 100% agreement.

I have read the announcement several times and so far do not see any discussion of additional costs. It might make sense and certainly a change for all clubs as their cost structure today would not include an NRA fee. I can only think match fees would have to go up. Maybe OK if the NRA can keep up....Certainly other sports do but Silhouette seems to have a hard time recording anything.
My other concern, where are they getting any data for classifications from 2013, ... Nationals? I have not been to a nationals in several years, so do I start over as unclassified?

Greg, That was one of my first thoughts also. After giving it some thought the do have every shooters contact info via the stubs we submit from the classification books. They could easily contact everyone to ask us to submit our scores from those years. They don't have a problem mailing us for money! That question is on my list for Dennis.

Greg, the information in my post about the additional costs came from a match director who had spoken with Greg Connor. Connor provided the amounts.
Al, looking forward to seeing Dennis' responses and comments. Dan

Al, Also ask how they are looking at the 'Fee's' are they one time, just for the big matches or for
every match. I'm afraid if we have to add $4.50 per person to all our matches we would loose a lot of shooters, especially where the parent shoots and say 2-3 kids. If it's the latter it looks more like a money grab than improvement and in the long run they will lose money. I believe more clubs will just continue to hold monthly matches as usual and not register them and only register the large State matches.

Hey Beckley, did ya happen to notice that 36 Bonner posted in the picture? Couldn't have done it without my assistance. See you Friday at the range around 11 providing 259 is on time picking us up at the flying bus station.
Oh yeah, got your Obama hat packed to bring, too.

That assumes everyone shoots at a club that hosts approved/recognized matches. My only match scores are from the last two Nationals at the Whittington Center. My match director has no desire to fool around with the NRA Silhouette division so she doesn't.

No McAlice I didn't catch that score of Boners. I did however catch the assault and robbery at the last nationals that I attended. First Boner and the rest of team Colorado beat up on some AA shooters then had the balls to steal their trophy! Give him my phone number he has dodged my last two calls like I was a bill collector.

I think it's reached a fever pitch. By the time poor Dennis comes in on Monday morning, he will be faced with a complete revolt. I say hang him from the yardarm!

Man the cannons!
I am very curious as to the application and charges these changes will bring. Please keep us posted Al.

I actually like the idea of bringing the classifications into line with the other NRA classes. My concern is having to re-qualify/reclassify again since I shoot in so few NRA matches.

DavidABQ, I agree that bringing the classifications into alignment with other NRA disciplines is really a no brainer.
But why are you concerned about requalifying? I guess I missed where it said anything about having to do that, but if I had not shot those types of matches for a long time, I would welcome the idea of reclassifying as it would be unlikely that my shooting ability hadn't changed substantially in the interim, and I would like to be classified according to my skills. That is, after all, the entire point of having classes.

Al,
I have not kept up with the current classes in other NRA competition but....when I was a youngster and shot position and prone the classification card was a running three year average of your scores. You could move up and down based on your shooting. This truly makes sense for some of the older folks who have some declining physical conditions. While I agree with both sides of the argument on this matter, I do still feel that there is little to no reason for a silhouette committee if the rules are going to change as they apparently have here. Not that our objections are going to change the way of the NRA but I do ask if this is going to be a running average? If there is going to be a fee for each card I would suggest a possible solution is to have a a fee per card up to $15. Beyond that there is a total flat fee of $20 for all the disciplines. thus allowing those of us that shoot 6 or more disciplines can get all the cards we need.
