[quote="dave imas"]I don't buy the old friends excuse. There are lots of ways to communicate with others. email, private message, instant message, telephone, letters... all tried and true methods to share thoughts without subjecting the public to inane and valueless banter. It would seem, however, that for some it is more important to see their words in print. Adding value to the discussion is secondary at best.
I was encouraged when the clubhouse and behind the berm sections were created. I was hoping to be able to avoid all the nonsense while reading posts. A great idea but it didn't work. Even in this thread folks were unable to refrain from dragging it down. Too important to be clever. I stopped coming by about a year ago for this very reason. Looks like things haven

If you ask the guys at my club they will tell you I'm a bit of a 'soup nazi" about using spotters. I've got 2 young sons (16 & 12) and we all shoot better with a spotter. For me being and using spotters changes this game from a "me" sport to an "us" sport. My misses don't seem so big and their hits are huge. Nothing like seeing that fleeting spot appear on a ram's shoulder your 12 year old just aced!
My youngest has an endless banter when he is spotting; 'take it easy, relax, it's just for fun, squeeze, it's ok,..............". Ya gotta love it. It may rattle some of my fellow shooters but so far no obvious complaints. He's getting better each match.
For a reality check is that I've yet to hear spotter who was louder than the report of the firearms. A few shooters smoke and we don't complain. Seems an even trade.
This is a very social sport and the spotter 'banter" is all part of it.

To all the hall monitors, there are only two threads on this forum that are being abused, and they should be. Of course they should have been on Clubhouse, but for whatever reason, they weren't. How much technical info do you expect from threads entitled Just my opinion or Tbones on fire? If you don't like it, don't read it and move on. At 13500+ views and counting, somebody must be looking at this crap. Just my opinion.

Let it go folks. Just restrict chatter to the Clubhouse and Behind the Berm - no big thing.

OPINION
Gentlemen
I have refrain myself from doing any other posting on this thread, but I think that Mr. Imas and several other folks understood the real meaning of my original post.
I love BS like everybody else does, and there is always A PLACE and TIME to conduct such BS. Luckily S.C. created two forums for them, The Clubhouse for regular BS, and the Behind The Bern for the more explicit comments.
My intentions were not to hurt anybodies feelings, but to make them aware somewhat, that the BS was getting out of hand.
At this time, I would like to ask Mr. Mordecay or Mr. Moderator to please move this thread to The Clubhouse, since it no longer belongs in the Smallbore Rifle forum.
Thank You.
Evelio.

What's ironic and somewhat humorous is that posts with substantive content seem to get very few replies while the others get a significant amount of views and replies. I thinking I should apply for a government grant to study this , there's probably some money in the stimulus package for it. Ha Ha

kevinbear....when you get your grant, let me know, I'll come to CO so you can do your study in greater depth, but of course you'll have to go to other parts of the country to study some of the others as well, wouldn't want your data tainted/slanted or in anyway manipulated.I thinking I should apply for a government grant to study this , there's probably some money in the stimulus package for it. As for thoughts as to why some of the serious questions go unanswered...too many opinions. I have worked for a gunsmith and gunstore for over 15 years, and seen many things /incidents come in totally mishandled by other so called experts. I have been a certified instructor for over 25 years (never charging for my instruction) and this last week alone while working with two young boys one evening watched a father bring in his 8 to 10 year old boy, put a Smith 40 cal. in his hands, stand behind him grasping the gun (over the childs hands) and insisting that he shoot...by the third shot the boy was screaming and the father riducling him for not being man enough to hang on. Three days later while teaching Coates' girlfriend I watched a father bring in two late teen daughters...renting a 44 Mag and insisting that they grip it double fisted, thumbs ovlerlapping and shoot double action only. No wonder we have so many people scared of guns and wanting nothing to do with them.
Of course that is only my opinion.

Isn't this why the .22 was invented? Is there any way to politely intervene with something milder?Innocent wrote:I have been a certified instructor for over 25 years (never charging for my instruction) and this last week alone while working with two young boys one evening watched a father bring in his 8 to 10 year old boy, put a Smith 40 cal. in his hands, stand behind him grasping the gun (over the childs hands) and insisting that he shoot...by the third shot the boy was screaming and the father riducling him for not being man enough to hang on.
