[quote="BlauBear"]My real concern is a pissed off pig needing a booster shot while a fumble to reload a single shot Stiller. quote]
My experience with pig hunting has been either 1. hunting over bait from an elevated blind or 2. following dogs through the thickest brush in the county. If the situation is #1 then you have lots of time to reload and a single shot will work just fine. If the situation is #2 then you want something light with open sights. My first choice is a light shotgun with open sights and slugs and second choice is a big revolver - 44 mag or better.

Blubear,
Do you shoot CBA silhouette? The 30-30 would work just fine or if you do not shoot CBA but would like to get started, then here is the opportunity to by a 308 ME lever gun and try it out on the Pigs. Then take it CBA shooting.

259...think it would end up with tied odds. But then the tie breaker could be run to set the rams and back, then shoot 5 turkeys.

Don't know about BB, but a brisk walk would be the most I wuld want... and then you go thorw in them darn Turkeys to screw it all up. I have a hard enough time hitting them when I'm rested ;)

Hey,
Why not a 338 or 375H&H, 416 Rigby, 458Win Mag....then you might be ready when the elephants get loose from the circus in your town.
Seriously BB, if you want to buy another rifle, choose it and buy it, support the economy. All your friends are either going cheer or sneer depending on whether it is something they want, like or are just plain jealous of.

Show up at River Rat Central with a new rifle and Kitty's Kadre will take turns bashing it, drooling, sneering at it, and then look around for the ammunition so they can "help break it in"... With Mini-Kitty always first in line... And like other things in life, the best part of building a new rifle is anticipation. The leading contenders are Remington (of course!) and Savage, either one in a .308 bolt face short action.
A Remington 700 SPS in Stainless looks like a good start, ship it off for truing and tuning as the toy fund permits, and then drop it in a Bell & Carlson stock. Still a hunting rifle, just well tuned.
Alternatively, a Savage Precision Action built up with as many off-the-shelf parts as possible looks like fun. It is a lot more expensive, so it would be a longer term project. A Savage 116FHSS is more comparable to the Remington 700, but I would want to handle one first and they are uncommon around here.

First off...More power to Mini Kitty for her wanting to try different guns, and you know you enjoy seeing a youngster shoot. As for what to add to the collection???why not go for both? Oh I forgot you are married and there is a limit to the number of fireamrs allowed. Guys you are just going to have do something about the lady of the houses attitiude towards firearms. Start 'em young like Commander Kitty, so they want more than you have.

There's no need for both, at least not at the moment! Parts availability and out of the box accuracy matter for a lot: Unfortunately, neither one has both! Savage has much better word-of-mouth for accuracy while Remington has earned a bad reputation for build quality.
And yes, the gun locker is already over crowded, another locker would get some awkward attention, and stowing gear at the Kitty cave can become interesting. Another 6.5x47 would let me use the same brass, but there aren't any production rifles in that caliber, and if there were I'm not sure how well they would feed since the 6.5x47 cartridge is shorter than the .308 box length on .308 bolt face actions. Makes me wish I had built the Stiller as magazine fed, around a different cartridge and with a lighter barrel contour.

Sounds like you need to get you some better friends

Though where you would get a more diverse demographic, I don't know...

You haven't seen your Stiller lately, have you...hmmm
Lots of good suggestions in this thread...In addition to the heavy calibers I happen to have a Ruger Super Redhawk in 44 mag that would be a good choice....and I do have a WWII era Italian Bayonet that you could stick him with...This is beginning to sound like something I'd buy a ticket to see..

You are so right about the demographic!

No good deed goes unpunished...
No wonder I'm considering another rifle.
