Re: Paint job
Big block of wood, it's in a very rough shape of a stock. It's what you'd feed a CNC machine to make a stock.Jetmugg wrote:Did you buy an uninletted blank stock, or the big block of laminated wood?

Re: Paint job
Here are a few pics of my not-so-elegant solution. It's a work in progress, hoping to have it more finished by the Southern Nats. I still need to make a higher, straight across cheek piece, and a bracket to hold the magazine "cassette".

Okay Steve, what the hell does that armature thing do? It looks like a way to cycle the action, but you have something else going on around the trigger...I need a tour. Nice millwork on the mag well and guard.

...also if you need more wood for your stock, I'll saw off a piece and send it.

Re: Paint job
That funny looking handle on the side of the action is for the toggle-link bolt. You pull straight back, then push straight forward to cycle the bolt. Check out some Youtube biathlon videos. It's "similar" to the Anschutz Fortner action in the way the bolt handle is cycled, but the mechanics of its operation are different from the Anschutz. This one is made by Izhmash in Russia.

Re: Paint job
...remind me to never piss off eastern block school children. Very cool. So the cut out on the trigger guard is for clearance of this device.
Do you shoot longs or shorts?

Re: Paint job
The Eastern Bloc women are very handy with the shootin' iron as well.
Actually, the cutout on the TG is for finger clearance, to keep my trigger finger from dragging on the guard.
I shoot .22 LR's, just like everybody else.

Re: Paint job
Thanks. This is my first "real" attempt at any significant machining. Dimensionally, it turned out pretty close to what I was looking for, but cosmetically, it looks like hamburger. I'm getting better, though, so there will be more projects in the future. Next up - curved aluminum cheekpiece, a bracket for the magazine cassette, and some kind of bloop tube / weight system.
