The Leupold may not be the best in image quality compared to some the scopes out there but it is by far the best mechanicaly....after shooting them for over 25 years I can say Leupold is the best for the game.

Although the Leupold VX-3, 6-20, EFR is the gold standard for Silhouette scopes, you listed two excellent choices.

Post a WTB on Marketplace and other sites and you may find a used one more reasonable. Also Check Chicken George from this site (Chickens Shooting Supply), as he has Leupold's at good prices, can get you the dot size you may want and is great to deal with.

Chicken George also sells Sightron and seems to have pretty good connections with them. I should have mentioned him, Bob, he's "one of ours" and good to do business with.

Is there anybody who's using Leupold VX-II scope. There is 4-18x42 model with target knobs which weights around 16 oz. Price is better then sightrons. Any good words about it? How close can you adjust objective on this model?

The Leupold VX-II 6-18x40 is a great scope! They will definitely focus closer than 40 meters, but someone else will have to nail down the number. Leupold says fifty yards on their website but, unless they've changed in the last couple of years, they'll definitely get closer.

I use a Leupold Mark 2 6-18x40 scope. Short target turrets, lowest # on the AO is 50, I shoot it@25yds so it will be fine at 40M. A great value scope. Not a VXIII EFR but hundreds less and a ounce or 2 lighter too.

Rich, could you confirm which scope you have? I can't find a Mark 2 in current production, but it could easily be an earlier model. There's a Mark AR and VX-II that look nearly identical, and I'd happily use either one!

Yes Bob, I went to the cabinet to confirm before typing, It is a Mark 2, the predecessor to the AR series. I got the idea of the VXII line (of which the Mark 2 and AR are family) from you. If you are looking for these scopes (mark 2 or AR) watch the sniper/tactical websites like SniperCentral and Mels and Ebay for these scopes. People sell them when they upgrade to the serious grade scopes that do duty in The Sandbox and other dangerous places. You will have to ask Leupold support (good luck with that) if the AR focuses down in distance like the Mark 2. Then again you are only asking to go to 40m. Thanks Rich, that's good to know! People get the idea these scopes are inferior when they're really good value, so a used Mark 2 sounds like a good buy.

I bought a Leupold 6.5x20 EFR and had trouble with it from jump. My buddy was on the fence between Sightron and Leupy but went ahead and got a Sightron 6-24 after he seen the problems I was having. He's very pleased with it and has been shooting it about 3x a week.

I also have a Mk-AR (vx-2?) that I swapped to when I shipped my VX-3 off. It works fine but I can't attest to the durability because I've only used it about a dozen times. I haven't had any problems it, and it has a clearer and brighter picture than both my friends Sightron and my VX-3.

It's surprising that you had trouble with your VX-3, but it does happen. I used a VX-II hard for two seasons of Silhouette with absolutely no problem, and the Mark AR looks at least as strong.

I have three Sightron 6-24 Sil scopes, two mounted on smalbore rifles, one on an air rifle -- Great scopes for the money (Good optics). the clicks on the turrets aren't as pronounced as on a Leupold, and the markings aren't as bold, but it is not an impediment to usage -- familiarity breeds confidence. They do weigh about 3 ounces more than a 6.5-20 EFR (wit sunshades mounted n both scopes), so if you are chasing weight, then a Leupold becomes the more viable alterative. My Hunters both wear Leupolds for this reason, while my Standard has a Sightron.

I made my decision today and sent Chicken George[GeoNLR] a personal check to buy the Sightron 6-24 SIL. I had saved up 1/2 and wife said to just go ahead and buy it. I keep some papers next to my laptop on the kitchen table and on top of the papers I have had a picture of the Sightron with specs for the past month. And for a couple months i have mentioned SCOPE out of the corner of my mouth every 2 weeks or so. I did not choose the Leupold 20X as really need the xtra 4X power.

I will put my 1 year old Vortex Viper 6-20, side focus, Target Dot, on my granddaughters .22 youth Savage. Since the parallax is 50 yards and does not like to shoot indoors at age 10 due to noise, it will work out nicely. She is right handed and side focus will work for her plus has better optics than the 6-20 Simmons she uses. The Simmons is currently on my rifle for winter indoor practice having parallax of 50ft vs 50 yds. Confusing.

I will be anxiously waiting arrival of the Sightron SIL, Chicken George!
