Roger AD9! Springfield Armory sponsors the M1a match....$25000 prize!! :-o In the early'80s there were all manner of giveaways and prizes for silhouette ...now other than Sierra and Lapau (last year) its been slim....even the powder folks aren't there except with swag (Chinese made hats, and trinkets)...no powder. So to improve the attendance at the Missouri Regional I'm putting together the 1st Annual Bob McAlice Ram-Dinger award...to be given every year to the match's biggest "RamDinger" :D

At least it is not the Bob McAlice Memorial Ram-Dinger award...question is it to be awarded to 6.5 shooters only?

Snake, is there another motivation here, like to get McAlice to ding more Rams so you can beat him ;)

No ulterior motives other than razzing McA......I just enjoyed his belly aching about dinging rams. But if you guys think he's too sensitive or it otherwise abad idea...I'll abandon the idea. The award would an "open" award...anyone can win although 6.5's have a distinct advantage. :D By the way as bad as i shoot, McAlice would have to keep dinging all the way down and through some turkeys before I could beat him.....fortunately I can hide behind the fact that I'm running the match ;)

He will love it, and I'll bet he'll even compete for it.

In fact Bob will have an distinct advantage over us mortals if he persists in using his Marshmallow Loads on rams... :ymblushing:

I agree with those that mention the tanked economy as being a key factor.
However, there are just so many newer shooting sports going after the four weekends - even INSIDE
of our silhouette envelope.
All the different Lever Gun events are in, sb light and heavy, HP light and heavy, the TON of M-1 Garand match spinoffs, zombie shoots, tactical, cowboy action - you name it.

It's just alot of "competition".

I never cared for the slacking off in rules relating to HP Hunting Rifle - but I'm not sure that's really hurt the attendance.
I remember the first Natl match I attended at Ridgway - parking wasn't even adequate on the range itself, - you just unloaded your equipment and drove back down the hill to park.
Those days are over and maybe it's wishful thinking to believe it's even possible to approach this kind of popularity today.

It's hard to get the kids involved.
Many reading this were hunters ONLY when we started and the sport was advertised as "A Target Sport for Hunters"
(American Rifleman 1974 - I still have this issue).
That brought me out.

Yep, this sport is also difficult.
Putting one's ego on the line takes courage - and the comment on meeting difficult challenges is certainly true.
HPS does not necessarily = instant gratification!

I'll bet most reading this have been approached by non-competitors at the range during a week day.
Most of the time, we're helping them out with their rifles, sighting in at 100 yards, etc.
I haven't found the right formula yet for getting some of these seemingly interested shooters out, and would be interested in anything that's worked for forum readers.

Well I can promise you old school fellows that you've got one 18year old, soon to be 19year old hooked deep!!!! As for promoting this sport down here in little Havanna aka South Florida good luck! =)) I love the sport a ton but even if I did try and recruit other shooters at our club, the avg age is like 70+ =)) , maybe not that bad lol. But I am going to try and get some more people from our fun rifle match to try and shoot silhouette! Who knows to what success, but being I have a bum arm right now, and can't shoot, why not! I'll even talk to a few friends that I know that are really good artist to see if I can make the bumper sticker thing happen! Also, I'd throw a steelchicken sticker on my truck if I could get one! Hell I'd even pay $5 for one. I also think someone on here should find one of the main emails to one of our more popular gun magazines, gun&ammo, american rifleman, etc! If we get just 3 magazine emails and get all of us to email them, which I think we could scroung up around 20+ of us to email them, may result in something! We would just have to make sure when we email, to have a list of ranges and a link to see such list so they could include that at the end of the article! I'll work on the bumper stickers though!

Also, I know well never get the NRA to go along with this but how about giving out 3 in a row pins for B and A class shooters, I'm sure one of those pin companies could put a 3 instead of a 5 on a pin if ya asked ! That way a newer shooter is less likely to leave without anything and anytime they see that pin, they will think about silhouette! Sounds silly to us, but to a new shooter, I know it wouldn't!

I love Silhouette anything....I have firearms for most of the games Hi-Power, Smallbore..Pistol, Air rifle .airpistol...but what kills it for me as for as Hi-power rifle and pistol is a Range...none in florida. so for me to shoot is like a lot a folks around here we have to fly because there are none within driving range.. I pray to the gods of Silhouette for Hi-power in Florida.....
