I just got a lens shade for my post 2004 Leupold 6.5x20 EFR scope and it looks like a sh*t on the scope as it is probably 1/4" smaller in diameter than the objective bell.

Does anyone have a source for a lens shade for this model scope that is the same diameter as the objective bell?

The pre-2004 lens shades are the same sized as the bell, but the threads are not compatible. Strange that Leupold would change this, but .... oh well.

I agree 100% George... Also my nice Sinclair covers will not work on the new style scope shades because of this size difference either. I have about 8 different length shades for the old stle that I can't use on my new scopes....

There is a guy up in Washington that makes an adaptor ring for the scope. Last I knew he charged around $8 for the thing. I can't remember his name.

Jerry put that thinking cap on and sleep with it if you have to. I would REALLY like to get in touch with him.

The adaptor ring is for the older leupold scopes,
so you can use the alumiua shade lens.

Hi all.....I made a couple of thread adaptors on my lunch hour Mon. & today.( Yeah, JB, my own time) One from steel, one from aluminum. They were made on a manual lathe and took about an hour each. They fit and function great. The aluminum one weighs 150 grains and adds .250 to the length of a shade. Will make a small run, maybe 20. Natural aluminum, no anodize. For those that want to make their own there is a legible drawing photo in the group. I will let you know when they are done.

Natural aluminum, no anodize. They will take about two minutes each on a CNC turning center vs. an hour on a manual lathe. Bob, Is it to adapt our older shades to the newer Leupolds? If so I'm in for a few of them!!

Yes, the ring is to adapt the old style Leupold sunshade to the current model (post 2004) scopes. They will be raw T6061 aluminum, no anodizing.

Jim...I know you are having a new HP hunter rifle put together. I dont think you handling my "cash flow" is such a good idea. Thanks, but no thanks. Regarding the adaptor rings, things are progressing. Will be cutting some test samples this weekend. I went out and bought a 78 inch remnant of a better grade of aluminum today after work. It's 2024- T351. It is less gummy than 6061, machines smoother and the fine threads will be sharper and stronger. It cost $123.50 for 78 inches, or about $1.58 per inch. And that's a good price,...OUCH. With waste figured in it will make about 125 rings. I am leaving in the morning to hunt, will be in snowy weather all weekend. It will be worth it to fill the freezer again. I will let you all know when the first batch of rings are ready to ship.
