She switched to 6br. I dont know why, you would think she would get pressure to use the lapua round since she is on team lapua. Anyway she won like crazy with 6br last year

No one with less ability to hold should base any decision on cartridge/bullet on what Winstead uses. If you are happy to just break on the animal, you should probably be using a 7-08. If you can consistently break a tad high or on the butt, then you could think about using a lighter recoil cartridge but if you are concerned about recoil, then I would look to add a softer recoil pad.

Lapua produces factory 6BR ammo with a 105 Scenar bullet but I doubt she uses factory ammo regardless of the cartridge.

Ok I shot my first match with the 6BR today at Ben Avery. Between the match and shooting left over rams after the match, I hit 9 rams and they all went down quite well except 1. The one that didn’t go down was a low belly hit right above the tally waker. That’s a spot that would be trouble for a lot of other chamberings also. The second time I hit it it went right down.
As I stated before I’m using a 110 SMk traveling 2809fps. That’s 1018 ft/lbs of energy at 500 m. Pretty respectable for this round.
I’m happy with it as I had shoulder surgery last year, and I don’t want the crap kicked out of me anymore. I’ll reserve that for my 30-30.

Thanks Al! Sounds like you had a good time. Was that your first time a BASF/Hassayampa?

I have shot lever guns here at the State match the last 3 year. This is the first time for HP. It’s a fantastic range.

I have it on good authority that Kathy uses Berger 115's on Rams. Whether she uses the Target or Hunting version, I don't know
Not really a choice for me as I an trying to avoid a faster twist than 1:8 to avoid the recoil torque.

115 grain DTACs at 2700 fps muzzle velocity.
Just started using them. 12 rams hit, 12 rams down.

What powder? How much?
6BR?
I have two more bullets to try then it would be the DTACs.
I tried Hornady ELD-X, doink
A special made 100gr bonded bullet, doink
Cutting Edge solid copper, doink
So far the Sierra 107 MK has done better then anything else I have tried.
I have some Sierra 100gr GameKings and Nosler Ballistic Tip to try. Both have a heavy base.

Re: What 6mm/243 bullets are you using on Rams?
Tried the additional two;
Sierra 100gr GameKing, doink
Nosler 95gr BT, doink
DTAC, last Sunday 6 hits, 6 Rams went down. So far, so good.
I tried the Berger 115gr Target bullet. I had to seat them really, really deep. Too deep. Powder crunching big time.
It was suggested to try the Berger 115gr Hunting bullet. One shooter has been doing well with them. I will see if I can scrounge some up to try.
I have gotten back to working on the Ram-O-Meter, or at least thinking about it. I came up with a different concept for the rollers. I was concerned about getting dirt/dust under the wheels. Linear bearings wouldn't have that problem.

I know you need a 1 in 8 or 1 in 7 twist for any bullets that way 103 grains or higher.
What about the .243 factory rifles that have a factory barrel with a 1 in 10 twist?
They need to shoot a bullet that weighs 100 grains or less.
I haven't seen any one mention the Speer #1220 100 grain BTSP bullet. I am going to try the Speer bullet with 31 grains of Varget. Ken

The Sierra 107gr MK is fine in an 8 twist barrel. Sierra recommends a 7 twist for the 110gr.Ken Green wrote: ↑Mon Apr 23, 2018 4:16 pm I know you need a 1 in 8 or 1 in 7 twist for any bullets that way 103 grains or higher.

I didn't find a Sierra 1220. Is that the correct number? The 100gr 6mm Sierra bullets are the 1540 Pro-Hunter and the 1560 GameKing.

I edited my last post. I should have typed Speer #1220, not Sierra.

My 'good authority' revised his input. Pretty sure she uses a Lapua bullet. Maybe a 105 Scenar or Scenar-L.
