Hi I've been working up a load for my 32-30 and I'm noticing that both starline and Winchester brass are well below Saami Spec around 2.082
Getting 1" @ 50m or 55yards for you guys interested to know what you guys are doing with your brass ? Are you trimming it to a set consistent length or just shooting it as it comes? Every bench rest fibre in my body is screaming size it all to a set length. If you are sizing it what's working for you
Cheers Westy

Westy, where did you get 2.082" as a SAAMI spec? My SAAMI data shows 1.315", as do my various reloading manuals.
Or is that a typo'?

Sounds like you have the length for .38-55 brass when measuring 2.082.

I worked backwards. Tested to find the over all length that worked best in the rifle. Also tested if crimp was needed for the match ammo. Then selected the new brass that was appropriate length from factory. Then trim as needed.

I trimmed brass to a uniform length and then developed the load. Had no problem getting good accuracy from this cartridge as long as I used a modest crimp. If you are going to crimp trimming brass is critical. The brass is very thin so trimming is easy, but you will need to chafer the mouth or you are likely to collapse necks as you seat your bullets. I had good results with 90gr JHC and LilGun powder.

Good luck. 32-20 is a lot of fun.

I never had to trim 32-20 brass. I always used Starline with a stout load of IMR 4227 and a Sierra 90 grain. I found that with the 32-20 the crimp was more important than anything to get it accurate at 100 meters. To much crimp was no good as well as to little was no good. I used a lee factory crimp die that works well. Mike Haynes
