Hi everyone: Has anyone used the Magnus bullets for level action. I have a Henry in .357 magnum with a 1 in 16 twist. I am mainly looking for some 200 grain bullets for the big bore rams.
I placed an order for some of the 200 grain lead bullets but have not received them yet.

I tried the Hornady 180 grain XTP but i was not satisfied with them on the rams. Thanks Ken

Haven't used any for a few years, but my 45 colt winchester trapper got along real well with the Magnus bullets.

I've tried the 180gr. Sierras at max load and they rang a lot of rams. Not enough powder to case to push them fast enough. I had better luck with 158gr. Bullets. Still will ring a ram if the wind isn't in your favor.

it has been years since i used their case lead bullets. they were okay years ago. but why buy cast lead when plated bullets are same price or cheaper. magnus jacketed bullets look like the are from the zero bullet company but at a higher price.

I am looking for 200 grain bullets for the rams at 200 yards. These were the only 200 grain bullets that I could find. So i order some so i could try them.

If any one else knows of any other 200 grain .357 magnum bullets, please let me know about them.

Ken not sure if you seek jacketed or cast but leadheads bullets sells online hard cast, gas-checked 180 gr. and 2 styles of 200 gr. 357 Mag bullets Bought some myself but haven't tried them on the 200 meter rams just yet.

Beartooth Bullets, Penn Bullets and Matt's Bullets are some I have used for hunting. All are 1st rate quality.

I finally received the 200 grain Magnus bullets that I ordered. The bullets look nice and clean and are lubed. I weighed them tonight. I separated the bullets by weight. The 2 lightest bullets only weighed 197.7 grains and 197.8 grains. The heaviest bullet weighed 203.9 grains.

The weight broke down as such:
2 bullets: 197.7 and 197.8 grains.
19 bullets: 199.0 - 199.9 grains.
11 bullets: 200.0 grains.
139 bullets: 200.1 to 200.9 grains.
17 bullets: 201.0 to 201.9 grains.
28 bullets: 202.0 to 202.9 grains.
36 bullets: 203.0 to 203.9 grains.

Another shooter gave me a few rounds loaded with some 200 grain bullets (unknown brand) loaded with 9.8 grains of 2400 to try. The recoil was not a lot with this load. I tried these sample rounds with open sights at 200 yards while resting my Henry rifle on sand bags. The wind was blowing from right to left with at least 10 - 15 mph gust and possibly even stronger gust at times.

I shot a 4 shot group that was approx. 1 inch in height but had about a 9 inch spread from right to left due to the wind. I was aiming between center and the right side of the target frame. One shot was close to the center of the target, then one about 5 inches to the left, another about 1.5 inches to the left and the last shot was on the edge of the target. Keep in mind that this was with open sights, on sand bags and in the wind with 10 - 15 mph gust.

Then I fired another 2 shots that were just under 4 inches across and no height difference.

I plan on loading some of these 200 grain Magnus bullets with 9.8 grains of 2400 powder.

I am thinking about trying 13.0 grains of Lil gun behind these 200 grain Magnus bullets.

I plan on mounting a scope on my Henry for the next testing. I hope there will be a lot less wind and be able to get accurate groups.

The Leadhead, Beartooth and Penn bullets were all way over priced.

I liked the design and the price of the Matt's bullets. Matt's bullets were the only ones where you could buy a 100 bullets and not forced to buy 250 or 500 for testing.

I was finally able to try the 200 grain Magnus bullets. I loaded them with 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, 9.4 and 9.8 grains of 2400 powder. I shot 5 round groups at 100 yards. The 9.0 and the 9.8 grain loads were the top 2 loads and very close. After more testing, the 9.0 grain load grouped just a little bit better overall. I will be shooting the 200 grain Magnus bullets with 9.0 grains of 2400 powder. I hope the big bore 200 yards rams will go down without any problems.

Did you run the 200 gr across a chronograph. What is the speed and are you getting any leading.

I ran a couple of the 9.8 grain loads of 2400 through the chronograph last month. The 2 shoots averaged approx. 1000 fps. I did not have the chrony with me this Saturday. The 9.0 grain load for 5 shots was approx. a 2 inch group at 100 yards. The barrel did not get too hot. 13.6 grains of Lil gun with a 180 grain bullet would get the barrel hotter than the 9.0 grains of 2400. I did not notice any leading of the barrel. It did not take very long to get the barrel clean.

leading is hard to see in a rfile barrel. run a lewis lead remover down the barrel to check. i was playing around with some 158 gr 357 cast lead for pc matches. i slug the barrel to get the correct size and ran them slow under 900 fps. shot around 20 then clean the barrel. all looked good by my eye until i ran a lewis lead remover down the barrel. i pulled lots of lead out for several passes. had to been the titegroup powder melting the base or something else. i don't think a 200 gr cast lead running around 1,000 fps will take down the 200 meter ram. i got a friend that is using a 180 gr fmj 357 mag with h110 in the cla game. he has rung rams with his load and he is runing a lot faster. i have played around with the 180 gr fmj bullet on the 200 meter rams, but have not found anything i like. i rang a ram this year at the lever action roundup with my 30-30. when it comes to the 200 meter ram you need to wack them good to take them down.

I loaded 5 rounds of 9.0 grains of 2400 with the 200 grain Magnus bullet. I shot them through the chrony this afternoon.
The 5 shots were 1203, 1183, 1163, 1205, 1167 fps. Hi:1205, Lo:1163, Ave:1184, ES:42, SD:19
