Red dot scopes

Has anyone ever tried using a reddot scopes for competition purposes?Could be a nice alternative to iron sights? I might pick one up just to see how it goes.

I think they would work good, except for the fact they don't have target knobs for repeatability or easy changing your settings between animals.

I have seen some that do indeed have target knobs, but not to the extent of a standard scope. I`m gonna shop around and see what the options are and post some links.

Well I could be wrong, but I'm afraid you'll find under those low caps a standard screwdriver/quarter type slot for adjustment, most of which are not a clip type, but friction. I've shot dots on my Bullseye hand guns for some years now and they all usually are the same when you look at them.

I have been using a red dot scope for years on a target 22 pistol. The main thing to watch for is brightness IN THE SUN. The recent Chinese made imports look great in the store, gun show, or house, but outdoors when looking at a white painted target, they seem to disappear. ie. BSA, etc.

The Tasco Japanese ProPoint series has always been a favorite of mine. On a pistol, the 40mm models are great, the 50mm models are too big, and the smaller diameter ones are too small. On a rifle, I would look for a 30mm ProPoint.

Remember that there is no magnification on most of these scopes. But you might want to look at the ACOG scope line as they do have some magnification and stradia on the reticle for bullet drop.

Biggest problem seem to be the size of the dot, some are as big as 5moa at 100yd.
