Arizona State HP Match Pictures & Report
This was another well attended, great match. Had about 125 guns, 77 heavy gun and 46 on hunter, give or take. Moderate winds in the morning on Sat. for the heavy gun and near calm in the afternoon for the hunter gun. High temp. Sat. reached 86. Sunday was kind of windy, up to 8-12 mph most of the day. The temp made it to 93 on Sun.
The whole match went smoothly except for a minor delay Sunday morning. The two young girls that were re-setting the chickens went out of the saftey bunker to re-set again. When done, they ran back to the shelter but stopped in their tracks. Right in front of the bunker door were a pair of 2 ft. rattlesnakes entwined in a springtime mating ritual. This scared the crap out of those two kids. They radioed the tower for some.... HELP!!!. A range officer drove out to the rescue. He relocated the rambunctious reptiles to a more private location. I talked to the girls in the lunch line. They knew that they were rattlers, but had no clue as to why they were "fighting"...
Like JB said, Colorado AAA shooter Jerry Rains tied with Jim Rose Jr. for State Champ heavy gun, each with 52. Thanks to my legendary spotting and coaching skills, Jerry prevailed in the best of five shootoff. Colorado Master shooter Lee Oneil won the hunter title with 56x80.
Several good scores were posted thru out the match. I saw three 30's, a 31 and a 33 in hunter gun posted by J. Rodriguez from Texas. There were several five in a rows, and three ten in a rows. J.Boyer and J.Rodriguez on pigs, and J.Rains on the rams. Rains used 140gr. Berger VLD's in his .260 on the rams.
If you have never shot this match, you owe it to yourself to get out here and shoot it. It is second in attendance only to Nationals. Great people, food, prizes and fun.
JB and Steve E.....Feel free to add anything about this match I overlooked. http://www.phoenix-silhouette.org/

Great pictures all around.. one in particular, although it doesn't show any of the silhouette action, is spectacular...
