I'm thinking of getting a Leupold 24x for my Remington CMP 40X standard barrel. I need the 24x because its about the lightest suitable scope and I need that and a light stock to make weight in standard division. Question is should I buy a older 24X, a BR24X that focus down to 10yds and has locking AO or new 25X. I do practice at 25yd and already have a post 2004 50ft adapter. People on this forum already cooled my jets on the BR24X but I;d like opinions before I make a choice.

The 25x40 is a great scope, but it won't focus much below 40 meters. Forget about focusing at 25 yard with one.

For short distance and indoors that is why the Leupold EFR's are so great. I like the 6.5x20 but really wish they would make say a 8x25 in EFR, to me that would be a big hit.

if by 25x you mean the silhouette scope, i would not hesitate to get one and use your 50' adapter, i have the 30x and shoot it in the barn( when the wife is not looking. but i will say some times i wish i had bought a variable, like when i see a woodchuck in the garden some times it is hard finding a moving target quicly with alot of power. i am thinking of getting a 25x for ir 50/50 on my contender.

With the adapter, a 25x40 will only focus out to about 30 yards, and with the adapters they cannot focus closer than 40 meters so there's a quite a gap. I found this out the hard way on an air rifle! If you need to focus close and far, just get an EFR and be done with it.

Sightron makes a nice 24x40 that will focus in near & far, but it is heavier and bigger than the Leupold. As usual, there's no free lunch.

I have several older Leupold 24's. I shoot in an indoor league where we only shoot 28 feet. I just use 2 adapters to get in focus. Al

Thanks for response guys. The only problem with the EFR is it weighs a little more than the 24X. If I don't see a scope that grabs me I'll stock the rifle first then see how much weight I have left for a scope. PS My adapter will only fit pre-2004 (VARI-X III) scopes.

Check with Bob McAlice on the site he may have an adapter all made up for you to use on the new scopes. I use my old sun shades with my new scopes with one of his adapters.

no idea! i did hear that the first bunch wouldnt even focus down to sb chickens, but after some consumer feed back on the fact that a silhouette scope needs to focus to silhouette distance they sorted them out, i got mine a solid year after they were released.

Ah! That problem! Yes, I had one of the early runs but Leupold fixed it. That was the only time Leupold has ever been grumpy with me, but it came out fine. None of mine (2 25x40s and a 24x40) will focus on air gun Turkeys, with or without the adapter, so there's a gap that makes them unusable for air gun.

I thought you meant the adapter.

Rich I had an EFR and had a weight issue so bought an M-8 24X. There was less than an ounce of difference. Not sure about the 24 BRs but I doubt there's much difference. give Leupold a call and ask, that's what I did after spending the money on the 24
