what would be a good scope to shot silhouettes with it will be going on a remington 541t , looking at the leupolds but would consider others ?

Cutnhare, you will not be unhappy with a Leupy, they hold their value, have good glass, and good warranty. The Weaver T series are good, some up and downs on warranties, mostly good though. Sightron has been building a good reputation with their newer lines as far as quality and warranty. Burris, Nikon, and a few of the German scopes is good, but not very practical for silhouette, usually because of the lower powers and strictly crosshair and or no target knobs.

I strongly recommend a variable power from 6 to 20+ range, but a 24 or 25 is not too bad, they tend to do well in variable lighting situations. Unless you are very steady 36+ powers tend to be too much to hold

I like large dots, some prefer small, at least a 3/8 inch is usually good for silhouette, I use a 1 inch.

Mechanical tracking is very important due to the frequent movement for the different distances. Light gathering is a personal preference, I tend to recommend nothing larger than a 42mm bell...as this breaks away from a lot of mounting issues that occur unless you have a long neck and need high mounts.
Good luck on your search and remember to try all that you see, silhouette shooters are always willing to have you play with their latest rifle/scopes.

I am a big fan of the old El Paso Weaver fixed power scopes. I have a T10, T16, T24 and I love them. Great tracking and I have had no issues with them at all. I have been looking at Vortex Scopes as they appear to have two that might work well for our wonderful addicting sport. Has anyone here seen these out at the range yet and might be able to report to us how good they are or possibly the quality. I have not seen one in person so I am a little shy of spending the money right now. I will attach both links. If I get one I will try to post a review.

Mary10, the dots in those reticles are awfully small and the scopes are heavy. On the other hand, the price is good and with the larger main tube they should have good light light transmission.

My thoughts are pretty well outlined by Innocent. A variable power scope that will focus down to 20 yards is awfully versatile since it would work well for air rifle, small bore and high power. Buy an established name with a lifetime warranty and 1/4 MOA clicks.

Leupold is my favorite because of the glass and their warranty. I have an old 24x40, bought used, that failed and they fixed it without a question. When I dropped a spotting scope that broke in half, Leupold sent a new one even though it was my fault and I told them it was my fault. Expensive? Not really.

I would go with that and at least a 3/8" dot. I have many of them in various forms from the Leupy to the modified Premier Reticle versions. No significant problems with either version. Have had to have two windage and one elevation knobs repaired, out of seven scopes in use for over 12 years now. No problems with the warrranties on them.

This is a perfect choice, particularly with the 3/8's dot. If you get a good deal on one, Leupold will replace the reticle for a pretty moderate price and you can still come out ahead. Contact Chicken George before you buy a new one - he usually has some pretty good deals.

BB....my preference would be to put at least a 1/2" dot in it, but not everyone likes the larger dot.

Love my Leupold 6.5x20 EFR's. But I really wish they made say a 8x25 EFR.

Leupold makes three different size dots, and some even like the 1/8 MOA, mostly for air rifle I think.

I still like the larger dot for my air rifles too.... In fact, I sent George a note today on one for another air rifle I'm setting up. I think the Leupold is brighter then my Bushnell 4200 on my Springer.
