George, I just place my order yesterday for a walnut Pharr stock through Treebone. Was going to go with maple, but this morning I decided to stick with walnut since this is going to be for a standard rifle and I think blued steel should stick with walnut. The owner of Treebone, his name is also George, is one of the most pleasant gentlemen I have ever had the pleasure of striking a deal with. As you can see from his website his specialty is with firearms that are probably a little older than what most folks are using in small bore silhouette though.

In about 3 weeks I'll post photos of the naked stock.

You know Mark makes wood stocks as well. Check out his website. His price is $1000.00 and up and thats not including the cost of the materials.

And you can spend $1000 for a Pharr stock through Treebone as well if you want. George has an amazing selection of wood... only limited by how deep your pocket book is.

On the other hand, if you are like me and your pocketbook has more dust in it than cash then he has wood for people like us too.

It is important to note that the patterns that George at Treebone has are flat topped and are not inletted. The barrel channel and inlet will need to be cut by you or your woodsmith.

This certainly isn't a Pharr, but I plan on seeing if it works for me. So far it feels and fits good.

Thanks for the compliment. This is my old 40-X. The stock wood is maple. I'm not certain of the botanically correct term, but we call it "swamp" or "water" maple around here. The wood doesn't have the usual, beautiful figure associated with hard or sugar maple. It is light, a bit soft, but light. The stockmaker is a local gunsmith, Garnett Floyd. He usually roughs out stocks on his pantograph, but this one he completed about 70% on the mill and the rest with hand tools (necessary to fit me).

No more pictures, but maybe soon.

This is my 40x that Mark did for me. George at Treebone cut the stock from one of his maple blanks. WIth the cost of the wood, shaping the blank, and finishing I have $1170 in th stock alone.
