hunter rifle restocking

Post by dryfire »

I am getting a 1712 restocked with a Tumbleweed split finger stock.
Does anyone have any info if the pistol grips can be stippled or textured?
Also ,are trigger shoe replacements acceptable? Or do these changes
go against the spirit of the game?

Don't know if the grips can be stippled or textured, whether it would be legal for hunter class or if Mark Pharr provides that service. I'm sure you could get someone to do it or do it yourself if it would be legal, though. Yes, trigger shoe replacements are legal and are available. I'm having Mark put a 3/8" wide one on my 1712 that he's currently finishing up bedding into a Tumbleweed split finger stock. Ask Mark about these and he can give you all the details. :)

Thanks Jason for the advice on the trigger shoes. The stock is actually
made , I am just waiting for delivery. I may have jumped the gun so to
speak in getting the texturing done. The Pharr stocks I have seen and
handled felt really slippery so I thought a little stipple might not be a
problem. After all wood can be checkered.

Cheers

I'm curious if anyone here has one installed now and is using it, if so do you find it to be an improvement over the factory supplied blade?

I put a 3/8" wide shoe on another rifle and it helped a lot when it came to making the 2lb trigger feel lighter and more controllable, but that was one of the really skinny Timney triggers so it really needed the help. I'll let you know about the one from Mark when it get it sometime around early next week.

nanaimoman,

Shot one all last year, is the best improvement to date for the 1712 two stage, that skinny blade factory one is just to little.

hunter stock

I have a Pharr stock and it dosen't seem to slip. Of corse the humnity here is usualy less than 20% which may be a factor. The Pharr stock is very thin so you might want to glue something on rather than cut something in. I don't think you will be sorry you bought the stock.

I have both sizes on order, the 1/2 and 3/8 width blades. What size are you using?

Dryfire, I own three of the Mark Pharr stocks and depending on the temperature of the day the stocks can feel really slippery.

I discussed the fact at length with Mark this year at the Nats in PA and he suggested putting some type of texture on the grip and comb areas, he showed me a stock somebody had fixed that way using some kind of clear glue or epoxy.

I am planning on applying Truck Bed Coating paint on those areas as soon as I experiment with some of my other old stocks to make sure that

nanaimoman,

The 1/2 on two annie's, the best feel to me, as they say your results may vary.

And remember the only differance between B class and master class is number of hits on the berms.......LOL
