Air Silhoutte rules?

I've reading a few things here and there and talking to our local Air Silhoutte Match Director at Tacoma Rifle and Revolver Club. I've only shot it a couple times; but I'm Air Rifle Field Target MD and like shooting offhand- so Silhoutte seems like a good fit. Trying to understand the rules, learn and hopefully get some others involved.

I read somewhere there are 3 Air Rifle Classes: Match (Olympic Match Rifles- 600 ft/s?), Sporter ( spring powered?) and Open (PCP's?). Then there are divisions within the Classes: Master, A's, B and C and I think you have to score so many points to get a rating.

I understand shooting jackets and gloves are not allowed for smallbore and assuming the same for air power, what about shooting stands? Most high end Air rifles are single shot and since there is a time limit the shooting stand makes sence- rifle and pellets are where they need to be.

What about a Air Rifle with a full length acessory rail, I have and Anschutz 2025; but without a glove it is uncomfortable to shoot.

Any other rules we need to know?

RickNW, welcome to the addictive sport of silhouette...any version. The classes are broken into Master, AAA, AA A and B based on a score fired in your first match, and you move up based on your scores fired in subsequent matches.
The different types of air rifle are basically as you stated, some call the 'match' "target". As for the gloves and jackets, vests are allowed, no gloves. You must be able to get a 4" PVC pipe between you and the vest when zipped.
As for offhand stands, nearly all silhouette ranges have stands of sorts on them, the position/field target offhand stands that you refer to are not needed. I have never seen anyone object to them, just usually no need and not enough space for them.
As for other rules, none really, each match director may do some variation of the basic rules to accomodate "shoot what you brung" situations. Haven't been to a match yet where silhouette shooters haven't been willing to loan their equipment if needed. In fact I shot Pat Steigers and JJP's air rifles all weekend at the Texas Nationals, due to limitations of amount rifles I could fly with.
In short, show up and have fun, the rest of us do!

Hope this answers your questions.

Mary

Thanks, we've shot a few Air Silhoutte at our local club- Tacoma Rifle and Revolver. Now wondering how we stand in the divisions (Master, A's or B?)? Mostly just curious, since we have a small group; hopefully we can schedule better to get some of the other Silhoutte shooters to stop by. I'm working on building a smallbore rifle- so in a month or so- after the Field Target Natz. Then I can focus on other interests.
