Number of Smallbore Silhouette shooters in U.S.?
Does anyone have an idea of how many SB shooters participate in matches across the USA on an annual basis? Is the number 5,000, 10,000, 50,000? Anybody have an idea if the NRA keeps track of this, and how many shooters are in each class (Master, AAA, AA, A, B)?
Just curious, trying to find out how big this "hobby" really is.

I asked the question of Greg Conners at the Competitors Meting this year and he indicated that the NRA has sold about 5K classification books this year. Now, that being said, remember that the Rifle Classification book includes Highpower, Smallbore, Blackpowder, and several Air disciplines.
Since the records are not centralized anywhere, it would probably be very difficult to figure out which books were used for SB.

SB Shooters
I would guess that SB is less than half the number of books. Black Powder seems to be a lot more popular than anything else. Most BP shooters only shoot BP. Most HP shooters shoot SB also. I don't know about air. The number couldn't be much more than 2K.
