Sorry for such a broad crazy question, but hey when you're green at something you have to ask the crazy questions!

What is the best in SBR Silhouette guns if you wanted to keep it under $2000? I just don't know enough about the equipment involved to know what the best is.

Would it be like an Anschutz and some kind of Pharr stock, etc?

If you have to keep it under $2000 total price, which hopefully doesn't count the scope or scope mounts, I'd go for an Anschutz 1712 barreled action bedded into one of Mark Pharr's RTS stocks with airweight bottom metal and wide trigger.

Adopt Mark Pharr and his family. Have him build all your guns, then get him to shoot for you.

Anschutz 54.18MSR barreled action, add the springs to the trigger to let it get up to 2lbs and rebarrel the action with a 25.5" Shilen barrel in as heavy a taper (has to be tapered to qualify for hunter class) as the weight limit will allow. Use that same Pharr RTS stock in your choice of colors/patterns. Add the airweight bottom metal, wide trigger, also. Total weight would be about 20 to 22 ounces under the weight limit for hunter class to give a decently open option set for scope and mounts. I personally prefer as much weight as far out on the barrel as possible so I'd make everything as light as I could and throw all the extra weight allowance into the barrel, but many prefer the rifle to be balanced at or just in front of wherever they hold their front hand. That's a personal preference thing you'd have to decide for yourself, of course.

Many of us shoot this rifle, more and more by the day. The pricing is not that far out of line with a 1712 as described above. The only difference if the $ for rebarreling. Just thought I would add an estimated $ below, because we are not giving you any refrence...

Stock complete inlet, metals, pad, pillar (only), etc. $600
Re- barrel and true the action with new springs in trigger $650
barreled action $1300

This is APROX. $2500 ... When you are looking at spending $2,000... that extra $500 should not stop you if that is what you are wanting to do...

Could probably set up the 1712 for $900 or so less and in your pocket for ammo...

As mentioned above, the heavy tapered barrel and trigger is what you are paying the difference for.

Hahaha.. I don't think I'd care either way, but as Marv would probably be doing it for me, I'm sure a Shilen would be used. I've heard his Lilja speech.

I would also opt for a Benchmark barrel as they are hot right now in many benchrest disciplines.

If money was no object I would be opting for a full custom action and not bother with a 54:18.

I don't think the rimfire needs that barrel for any reason other than to get the weight farther out front to slow the wobble. That long of a barrel would actually cost a little velocity with 22lr standard velocity ammo, but I've never had any trouble with ringing targets in that match. They go down just fine if I hit them. It's the hitting them part that I have trouble with.

I went 25" on my build. Many have picked it up and liked it, more than not, they say it's too heavy...Will I keep it, probally not but the thing is this

Cost to cut down and re-crown = less than $50

Cost to add .5" = ~$600

I plan to "work my way" toward the feel I want. I, Like Jason mentioned, wanted my hunter to "hang" like a standard rifle with a tuner on it...I may cut the tuner off next year, but no plans for change this year....

Since I'm the contrarian, a Pharr stock, Lilja barrel, 504 action (I warned you...) and a bottle of scotch. Then ship the whole thing to Evelio with a polite note asking him to please put it all together for me.
