Hello there, this is my first year Silh shooting. I've been looking online at the above scope, however, they really don't represent the actual sight picture. And nobody near me (LGS) stocks this scope so I'm going to ask my question here.
Say on the FX-3 30X, how much of any animal does the 3/8" dot cover and the 1/2" dot? If the 1/2" dot is 1/2 MOA, that's not too big. 1/2" covering the Ram would be good. Or am I missing something on the terminology?
TIA,
Chuck

I've tried everything from 1/4 to a full 1 minute dot, the 1/2 is just about right for most people. It's approx. 1/2 inch, perfect to shoot all the targets.

my small bore silhouette scopes are 30x in 3/8 dot and are easy to pick up. have used a 30x 1/2 dot and to me a little big for my liking, however alot of shooters prefer this 1/2. The smaller dot 3/8 may appear to dance more than the 1/2. Both are very good, however if you are a new shooter using a high magnifiction of 30x, you may want the 1/2 dot.
my .02 cents

Maybe this will help you get a better idea of how much is covered by a dot. This view is looking at our 500 meter 18 inch diameter gong. The scope is a Leupold FX-3 25x with the 3/8ths. dot. Approximately two inches of the gong is covered by the dot. The view would look similar on a 3.6 inch gong at 100 meters.
Oh,I did not notice this question was asked last March.
