.357 Load

Post by kendog »

Anyone here have a good load for .357 Mag Pistol Cal Lever gun? 14.2 of 2400 with 158 JSP is very accurate, burns real clean, but it is hard on the targets. A friend is using Titegroup but is is way dirty. Going to switch to a lead bullet and have lots of Win 244. Also quite a bit of the old 5744.
What are you using?
Thanks

For pistol cartridge I like Brazos 125gr bullets since they are cheap. Currently use 8gr of blue dot but have used 5.5gr of HP-38 and 4gr of bullseye.

All out of a 20" marlin cowboy.

I'm using 6gr Titegroup with 125gr Hornady bullets for PC and just gave it a try for rifle C-P-T which went well, H110 14gr with 180gr Hornady for Rams. I use to use H110 for all rifle animals, but figured why not use the lighter load if the heavy wasn't needed. I don't find Titegroup dirty at all, after firing the H110 the case is filthy. 24" barrel.

3.7g to 4.2g of Titegroup with 125gr cast bullet of your choice for all four PC animals and CLA chickens. Or any subsonic combination that shoots well in your rifle.

5744 works well in the 357 with heavy cast bullets going slow. It is one our powders of choice for CLA.

4.5gr Green Dot and 158gr Desperado Cowboy bullets.
The bullets are a 20-1 alloy. With a light load hard cast bullets are likely to lead the bore.

11.5g 2400 158 Jkt. with magnum primer works good. Hard to double, mild, ~1400FPS.,use current components.

5.5 grains of Bullseye with Berry's Plated flat nose 125 grain plated bullet. Knocks down rams right smartly. :D
