Custom Standard Class rifle?

What does a custom standard gun look like? Is it possible to build one now? McMillan used to make a Master silhouette stock that would be about what I have in mind, but it is no longer available. Wooster used to make a thumb hole stock also. I think the ring height allowance was different than hunter. So who makes a custom ring for standard?

I don't know anyone that makes 2" tall rings, but 1.5" rings on a 1/2" riser will get you there just the same.

The folks down in Mexico use all sorts of older Anschutz Running Target and custom stocks. You could probably find some after-market stock-makers like Boyds or Stockey's that still make a thumbhole stock.

Honestly, I think most use a "normal" silhouette stock like a Pharr or Wooster, put on a heavier barrel for the extra weight, and use a lighter trigger. I could be wrong, though.

It is interesting you said this. I have tried both Anschutz standard rifles in the past, and for some reason I never figured out, I shot the 64 MS much better than the 54. Would like to run into another one someday.

I’ve been shooting a separate standard and hunter rifle for the past few years. I shoot them both in a Wooster Hunter hybrid stock and both have 2 pound Bixn’ Andy triggers in them. The only real difference between the two rifles is the weight. I kept track of my scores for an entire year and this was the result.

Thank you! It’s a Vudoo single shot with a Benchmark 3-groove finished at 25”. The contour is called a “Vudoo Contour” it’s 1.25 at the shank then quickly tapers to a .920” cylinder which is about 20”.

Now that is interesting. I thought conventional wisdom said longer barrels balance better, but you are shooting awesome scores with what is almost a carbine barrel.

Sorry, I misread it. Obviously. I thought finished length was 20, not 25. Should probably actually using my reading glasses from now on.

Here is my standard rifle. McMillan Master stock no longer made, Walther . 920 barrel 18", bloop tube with weights. I have a new Leupold 6.5-20 EFR on it now on a higher rail and it is still 10 oz under the 10lb 2oz limit. Able to move the balance point to your liking.
