Re: What is the Go To Scope Now?
Athlon has been a great supporter of the Lapua Monarch Cup and when I checked out this scope at SHOT show I was really impressed. With the illuminated reticle it can be easier on aging eyes. I have one of the Argos HMR scopes on the way from Athlon to test out, as well as their 4.5-27x50 MIDAS BTR GEN2 HD. They're a little heavier but with a higher allowance on SB hunter rifle that may be coming, it would open up more scopes like these to shooters. The other nice thing about the Argos is that it focuses down to 10 yards, which would be a good candidate for indoor shooters, now that Leupold is discontinuing their EFR line of scopes.Kirk J Larson wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 7:03 pm A friend and I have both been looking for an answer for rimfire and air gun silhouette. I prefer a 1/2 minute dot and just sent 2 Leupold efr scopes to ackermann for reticle changes. Unfortunately their price is now $300 per scope. We purchased several Athlon Argos HMR 4-20 X 50 1” tube scope with an IR MOA reticle. Duplex style reticle with a 0.7 moa dot in the center. Illuminated as well in the 325-400 price range. So far I am very impressed

I spoke to the Gold Ring Product Line Manager at SHOT Show. This is information direct from the company. Citing, too many intricate parts to maintain.

That is bad news. Would anyone know if the Optical Services Company can install dot reticles on any of the newer Leupold scopes? I would be interested in even larger Lee type dots than Ackerman makes also, say 1 MOA or so. Is that possible anywhere?

I talked to them not too long ago. If you're talking about the 6.5-20 VX-3HD then she said it would be an experiment. Since many manufactures have gone away from the old school wire reticle method, she's not quite sure if it can be done. She told me that I could send in a scope "at my own risk"...SqHunter wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 2:11 pm That is bad news. I have a 1moa dot in a FX3 that Cheryl put in for me. I had to beg and plead to get her to do it, she was absolutely convinced I was wrong about what I thought I wanted. I love it. It’s been on my SB rifle for a long time now and seems far less tiresome for my eyes and brain than a smaller dot.

Re: What is the Go To Scope Now?
The new VX3HD has the reticle engraved on the glass, so Cheryl can't change that. She replaces the physical wire crosshairs in the older VX3 / VXIII. So no VX3HD changes from Cheryl. That glass on the new HD is great, but that diamond is like a bad fart that lingers.Emietenkorte wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2025 7:36 pmI talked to them not too long ago.
