Bench rest Silhouette Questions
Reading the rules it appears that a tuner/sight extension tube is allowed. They aren't a compensator or muzzle break, Correct ?
Secondly is there a sound reason Spotters are not allowed? It seems contrary to every other flavor of our sport and prohibits the opportunity to develop relationships. Spotters allow none shooters an opportunity to participate, develop relationships, build shooting related skills and enhance safety.
I know I posted in the Handgun topic but it gets about one post a year.

Re: Bench rest Silhouette Questions
I'm interested in this topic of BR matches. What sanctioning body / rules exist for benchrest silhouette matches?
Steve.

NASSA is the governing / creating body. Hopefully the link will take you to the rules. If not a link is in blue at the bottom of the NASSA home page. It looks like it will be a good addition to the sport. NASSA formalizing a challenging option is a great benefit. To further legitimize this silhouette option it is part of SK sponsored “Lone Stare Cup” also detailed on the NASSA Website.

OK - thank you. BR silhouette sounds like a fun competition. I'd like to give it a try some time - especially if a club in Missouri decides to start shooting that discipline.
Maybe - just maybe.... I'll shoot better from the bench at smaller targets than I can shoot while standing on my own 2 feet.

Have you considered IHMSA Practical Hunter or Unlimited Any Position (i think thats the name)? They can be similar to Benchrest, especially if your range has benches and the match director allows their use.

I haven't read the rules but I wonder if "spotters" refers to spotting shots such as target benchers shoots or people spotters such as we use in Smallbore Silhouette.
We include Benchrest Silhouette in our monthly matches and the Texas State Match at Bayou Rifles in Houston. It's becoming really popular.

Thanks for the response. Are the competitors at your matches competing with a spotter?
At our matches I allow spotter’s and advise / provide the competitors the official rules so they are prepared if they venture out to shoot at other clubs.
