wssm build
i was thinking about building a 6.5 or 7mm on a wssm case does amyone here have any experince with this ? and just now wondering if that would be leagal cause case started life as a"magnum" ? should not have much if any more powder cap. than a 243-308 case ? have to do some homework here

Re: wssm build
Why would you want more case capacity than a 308 for silhouette? The little 6.5x47 case is plenty big and the 260 is even bigger. The 260 is just a 243 necked up or a 308 necked down.

should be a doosy whitetail wildcat, a very short action may make it wery stable and strong, short fat cases dont seem to feed that great, also more powder makes a small bore eat up throats.
if you just like the wildcating do it. probablly not going to pass tech cause it says magnumon the case head. there are pleanty of "magnums " that are not allowed that are milder than legal choices.

Re: wssm build
well i like doing something diff sometimes and i do know a 260 very well was necking up .243 long before a .260 was ever sold on selves the powder cap. should not be much diff. in the wssm case if i could get a bit more speed with heavy bullets that would be a better ram load where i shoot(wright city) is very bad about ringing rams with everything!
short fat cases have a rep. for good accuracy and they might burn a barrel quicker is why i would consider doing this in a 7mm (dont tell McAlice) best i can tell it would be a legal case for stanard gun (would feed single shot) and it is not belted can someone show me diff .
no belted case and load to where it does not damage targets .

Might look at necking up the 6.5X47Lapua case. Tommy Perry in Missouri has done that for a couple of years with good success. With the case you get plenty of case capacity in a small rifle primed case that is built for high pressure that is short enough to fit in a short action.....just a thought.

Re: wssm build
i do think it would be just the ticket for not ringing rams, but really would be so close to a 7-08 that there would be no real benifit other than a tiny action.
that being said, no belt and not damaging targets aside, it will still have a "magnum" designation on the head stamp. you could maybe talk a tech check to pass it. if you could get some one to custom make you brass, then no problem....
i of course could be totally wrong. wouldnt be the first time....wouldnt be the first time today in fact.
cheers

Re: wssm build
Why a 6.5-06 when you already have a great 6.5x55 available. Looks like somebody would like to re-invent the wheel !!!!!

WSSM are illegal. period i know i build a 7WSSM and used it at the 2005 nationals and was flagged after the first day. the NRA Silouette looks at is as a magnum. Iknow it seams like a very good idea short fat cases seam to be more accurate. As for proformance it is basic the same as a 7mm-08. I used it at local matches and i never damaged a target. Word to the wise its illegal

Hey Larry, just build your self a decent 7-08 and shelf your .260 Rem. Forget about the WSWMSWWSS..what ever.
Those stubborn St.Louis rams require the extra muscle that a 175 MK delivers. Come on Larry, I know you really want to be a 7mm guy.

Re: wssm build
kmiller thanks for the info not wanting to reinvent the wheel just a diff. size wheel and now mcalice i do know one thing for sure about the 7 it does ring rams louder than any other out there rest of the story to be continued
and my parents raised me better than to shoot something laike a 7mm
