Smallbore Silhouette Turkey Shoot

Hello all... I want to get an idea as to how many people would be serious enough to attend and off-the-wall, cash payout, Rifle Silhouette Turkey Shoot.
It is tough logistically to pull off and, I wish I could set it up with more shots to qualify with but, The match is shooting at Chickens at the Pig stands (60 Meters) and the Turkeys at the Ram stands (100 Meters).
It is something I put a lot of time in a while back and procrastinated up to now to get it here.

If it is to be held, I need to get it set up in July of this year in order to have the match in 2012.

Please look it over and let me know what you think.

One aspect I like that I put into it is that the final match is a shootoff with the top 12 qualifyers.
The interesting part is that all scores are at zero for the shootoff and the qualifying scores do not count anymore.
Doing this and, slightly less time for shooting, opens the door for just about anyone that qualified to be able to win 1st place.
Be in the top 12 out of 72 maximum and, you have a chance to win nearly $1,300.

Looks like you have put a lot of time and thought into all this getting it laid out. For $70 I would play for sure would just cost me $700 to attend, then I would need to win to break even

We would be interested, but even with that kind of a payout we would be hard pressed to win traveling expenses....sounds like fun though...we regularly practice with the chickens at the turkey line and the turkeys at the ram line.

There is another match with 36 maximum shooters of AA Class or less.
They would shoot Pigs at 77 meters.

I have only 2 comments Jerry.

1. Pigs and turkeys are just about the same square inches in area.

2. You need to have it in the fall or winter so I can be there to shoot.

We do that with our animals now, but at their normal distances!

The Pat Steiger Memorial Match lays the animals down, so you only have the edge to shoot at.
It's only a memorial match because his children whip up on him reguarly in that match.

i ran a similiar thing at the season closing match at our range last year, called it the "Pirkey Challenge"

1. entry fee was $10.00 - Anyone that shot in a smallbore silhouette match in 2011 will be able to participate in the match.

2. Course of fire will be a quick 10 targets – 5 turkeys at turkey distance, turkey station, and 5 pigs at the ram distance, ram station.

3. Highest amount of hits wins. In the event of a tie, a shoot off will be the best of 5 turkeys at the turkey station.

4. All shooting will be done off hand, with qualifying NRA smallbore silhouette equipment.

5. There will be 2 divisions - Standard rifle and Hunting rifle. All individual shooter classifications will not be recognized, only classed by the type of rifle you shoot.

6. All entry fees will be split respectively for the amount of entries per division, to have a separate Standard and Hunting rifle division purse.



First place of division - 50% of total purse collected for the division.

Second place of division – 30% of remaining purse.

Third place of division – remainder of purse.


In 2010, only 6 shooters participated (was a quick idea, will promote it earlier this year). 1st place won $15.00, a trophy, and a voucher good for a free regular SBS match in 2011, 2nd place won $10.00, and third place $5.00. Obviously the more shooters, the higher the cash prizes.

Other prizes may be available in 2011; I will try to see what I can do in time for the 2011 match (possibly a brick of ammo, shooting vest, special match winner pins, etc.)

i'll have to start promoting it earlier this year, the low target count is due to having it directly after the season closing matches and time being of the essence.
