Uberti 1873 sight choices
I have finally decided to buy a new 1873 Uberti in 24" octagonal in the more modern 357 magnum calibre. I have been looking for other brands and makes and have decided to settle on this one, they are quite well priced at the moment.
I wanted to try and install a tang sight, since I don’t think another type of iron sight can be attached or are allowed in the rules. It seems that Marbles are most favoured over the Lyman tang sight. What is allowed and recommended for Cowboy silhouette for pistol cartridge up to 100 meter mark? I am not sure on the difference but they have a standard and improved tang sight, different length uprights and different sized apertures.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Craig

Re: Uberti 1873 sight choices
I have a similar rifle in 44-40, and use the Marbles tang sight. The Lyman does NOT have windage adjustment. The idea behind the "improved" Marbles sight is you get to change staffs to adjust your elevation which seems to me like a lot of hassle for a small gain. I use the standard Marbles on this and three other rifles and , like most other shooters, I just count the clicks necessary to obtain the various sight settings. With the .357 you aren't talking about very many clicks, mabe 12-15 or so from chix to rams, depending of course on your loads.

Check the Marble's web site http://www.marblearms.com/standardPeepTang.html# for the standard and improved sight part numbers for your rifle. Those will be the numbers to use regardless of the numbers listed in a dealer/distributor catalog.

Thanks for that. I will try and order one of the standard sights then. It’s good to know that the improved sight is not really that improved.
Once again tanks,
Craig.
